2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission New paint job - prepping

The paint is getting kind of tired, especially on the hood. I've taken off the door badges, but the rubbery adhesive is still pretty tough. What's the best way to get that stuff off, so there is less taping/masking to do with the sanding/repainting? I'm still not sure that I'll even replace them; may go "badge-less".

I have an attachment for my air die grinder which is made of multiple 4" diameter layers of 1/16" foam rubber (mounted on a 1/4" arbor).

It is designed for stripping emblem, body molding and label adhesives/double sided foam tape. The thing works very well and will not mark the underlying paint at all. I bought it at a commercial auto body supply shop several years ago.

Another couple of products that have served me well are "Goof Off", which is available at most hardware stores and the other is "SolvoPlast", (will be under varying names I'm sure) which is available at most drugstores/pharmacies. It's main use is for the removal of bandaid adhesives but works great on vehicles as well. Both of the above products require some elbow grease but do get the job done.

One other reminder, before you start sanding or prepping the paint, thoroughly wipe down the truck with a wax/polish stripper to remove any built-up contaminants that could contaminate the final paint application.

Thanks for the tips. All of the paint will be lightly sanded; the hood will be stripped. Project starts Monday, hopefully.

I always had that problem with emblem adhesive. What I did was use 3M adhesive remover which only softened it, then gently used a single edge razor blade or a new plastic putty applicator to push it into balls and wipe it with a papertowel Try not to dig into the paint, it takes a few times to get it all off. From an old bodyman. PS "Goof Off" will work too.
