Scheduled to be released in the early calendar-year 2003, the specs on the new 6. 0L V8 are:

325 hp @ 3300 rpm

550 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm

517 lb-ft at horsepower peak

compared to the new Cummins HO at:

305 hp @ 2900 rpm

555 lb-ft @ 1400 rpm

552 lb-ft at horsepower peak

Hey Ford and Navistar? Nice try, but your peak rpms are too high, and you still didn't beat the Cummins torque :) The good ol' straight six makes more torque sooner and longer.

What I've heard

I heard those HP #s on the new Power Stroke are the prototype #s. Most likely the real HP will be lower close to 300 is what Navistar's rep told me. The HP will be lower but Turque #s will stay close to the same. He still can't give me a date on when they will be out though. Navistar has been working on this motor for several years now, it's nothing new to them. :)

I myself can't wait. It will just give me some more Furds to pass. :D

Strait Sixes Forever.

Actually, I read in "automotive news" that it was supossed to make 350HP and 600FT-LBS. maybe we shouldn't get to cocky just yet cause "Automotive news usually nails it on that kind of stuff. :{ :(

Lucas, the numbers I opened this thread with were from Ford's own press release of last month. Those 350/600 numbers were first suggested last year when the 6. 0 was announced. That is likely the medium duty rating of that engine, as Navistar will use it in their own trucks as well as the Ford F650/750.

wouldn't that be the other way around? the current psd makes 275/520 while the navistar top spec one makes 230/620. they seem to bump the power up by giving it more rev's but take the torque away. .

navistar's top spec for the vt 365 is the same @ 230/620 with 340trq @ 800. .

Normally, that's true, Nick. But you never know these days, especially with the new emissions specs at 2003, 2004, and 2007 - plus ULS diesel coming on-line nationwide. Look at the Ford dilemma (I know, I know) - do you buy an F550 with a 325/550 engine, or an F650 with the 230/620 (assuming that's what's offered)?

well, if you are going to buy the f650, drop the psd or g2 and take the 3126 cat and have the rv spec programing put in. 330/820 iirc. . also, the cummins is avalable there too. .

I went on a fact gathering hunt and boy there is alot of bullcrap to sift through. Did you know that each of the big three have the BEST IN CLASS HP AND TQ? All three of em. Ive done side by side comparisons of hp and torque curves using diesel dynamics websites' dyno graphs. And I was assured the inline 6 is the way to go. The new 6 liter ford(no dyno available) isnt going to hit its torque until 2000 rpm. better leave the 93% converters alone on that puppy. With the edge box on the duramax and the dodge. the cummins hangs onto the power through a broader range of rpms. Look for yourself. A little addition and subtraction is needed because the 8 cylinder needs to rev so high to get its hp.

I never considered buying a cummins to win any races but I spank them 8s all the time. I am very pleased with my cummins and will probably buy more before all is said and done. I want one of each. the 1st gen the second and the third. Bomb em all and call it good.

Ford has released final numbers for the new 6. 0 PS:

- 325hp @ 3300rpm

- 560 lb-ft @ 2000rpm

squeezing past the Cummins by 5 lb-ft.

http://media.ford.com/newsroom/release_display.cfm?article_id=12660&id=&art_ids=0&bn=1

This gives Ford a peak number lead, but the Cummins is still a nice level plateau of torque - 555 lb-ft at 1400rpm, straight across to 552 lb-ft @ 2900rpm, its power peak rpm. In comparison, the Ford PS will only produce 517 lb-ft at 3300 (the hp peak rpm).

Numbers

In my opinion they are numbers that may or may not be relevant to the real world. A case in point; my wife and I recently convoyed with my buddy and his wife to Alabama on vacation. He has a 2002 Duramax with a manual transmission with a 3. 73 axle. My axle is a 4. 10 so that may make some difference but there is not THAT much difference in the ratios. His fifth wheel trailer weighs the same as mine does, yet I got 1 mpg better fuel economy and I could easily outpull him on the hills. :D His Duramax with 300 horsepower and 520 foot pounds of torque could not keep up to my bone stock Cummins manual with 215 horses and 440 foot pounds of torque. So I really don't have a lot of faith in the advertised numbers; only real world performance. I just hope my 2003 Dodge is half the truck my 97 is. My two cents. Cheers from Canada.

Nope, not after early next model year...

I just wonder what that engine (6. 0 G2) will be capable of 2 years down the road (once the aftermarket companies figure them out)?

From what I have been reading Banks and ATS already have the new G2 engine in house. INTL is already selling it in its meduim duty trucks. Aftermarket parts should be readily available pretty soon after introduction. The final numbers have been released on the Ford website as 325/560. The G2's will be available on all trucks built after Nov. 4th, 2002. The new 5 speed auto is released then as well. Other mid year changes include the new King Ranch F250's and F350's. Power sunroofs will be available on XLT's, Lariats, and KR trucks. New wheels are also part of the midyear. No body style change until 05 at the earliest.

It shouldn't take long for the magazines to compare an 03 Cummins, G2 Powerstroke and a Duramax. Has GM changed their power levels for 03?? It sounds like they are at the back of the field in HP and TQ now. It is a fine day when the worst rating is 300/520. There are going to be a ton of 400/750 trucks running around between transmission shops in the next year or so..... sounds like a good business to get into!!... . CJ

I agree totally, I don't believe everything that manufacturers say. Nuff said.
