Off Roading Custom Bumpers

Hello all: A friend and I are going to pull our trucks at the local County Fair this July. Neither of us has ever pulled before (except for my 16K lb. fifth wheel). His truck is built: transmission, injectors, turbo and fueling box. Mine is basically stock except for some intake upgrades. Does anyone have some advice for the newbies. I noticed during the tractor pull last year that they measured the hitch hitch and weighed the tractors. Is there any advantage to a higher or lower hitch? Tire pressure? Low range?

Any help is greatly appreciated. There's no prize money involved, just plastic trophies and PRIDE! I really don't want an old chevy to beat me!

I would first check into your local truck pullers associations rules. The people that put the pulls on. most of the time they have rules for the different classes. I know around me the diesels are excluded from the gasser raindear games... lol One of those rules Im sure you will find is hitch hieght. I dont think in your guys case tire pressure will be an issue. I would leave it at what the tire calls for. As for what gear to pull in you may want to post your gear ratio and tire size Im sure some one will help with that.

A normal hitch height is usually around 26 inches. The higher the hitch the more down force on your back tire, more grip etc. As far as tire pressure, it all depends on the track's surface. You will want more in the rear and less in the front. Just for example 50 psi in the rear and 25-30 in the front. If you are pulling in the stock class, a good hitch with a 3 inch opening is probably what you will need. Without and engine mods, use 4L and lock out overdrive. When they give you the green flag go for it and have fun. You will be hooked :)
