I've got a 2004. 5 Quadcab 4X4 auto short bed with 9,100 miles.

Had a couple of issues so I took it in to the dealer this week and got it back today so I though I would share a little info about the experience.

The truck has a minor driver side door lock issue that was easily resolved, now on to the good stuff... ... ...

Like many other guys with the auto and 4X4, my truck had the dreaded slight vibration @ 70+ mph. In addition to that, the truck had a very annoying gear whine when coasting around 40 mph.

The dealer called me late yesterday to tell me that the transmission tech drove the truck and did hear the whine and feel the vibration. I was informed that they would dig into it today. I got another call today and was told that there were two Dodge reps at the service center going over my truck with the tech. Final call late today, the service advisor told me that they were going to put in a new ring and pinion in the rear end. In addition to that, they were going to install a new drive shaft, in the front I would assume.

The parts will not be in until next week so I went and picked my truck back up for the weekend. I'll keep you guys posted next week when the repairs are finished up.

Cheers,

tp

Go to user options and fill out the signature line so TDR members can have some clue as to what truck/model you have. You made the statement in the very first post, but that gets overlooked more often than not.

I had the whine but no vibration almost from new. At around 6000 miles the dealer replaced the ring and pinion. I've put about 3000 more miles on since then-- so far so good. Now I can enjoy the wind noise around the "A" pillars much more!
