Insurance companies now ammunition against Fiat, and the owners that had to pay their DED may win in Court.

IMO, its not the coolant leak causing fires it the EGR / Plenum Combo

Verndiesel fire was relate to the Location behind engine back by the Turbo....
I would go lookup what at recall on the BMW Diesel was and draw your conclusion then, my opinion it will be the very same as BMW had

I hope not.... I take this is you RonD

I also have a 2015 BMW with the 3.0 diesel engine, they had a recall a few months back for what may be the same thing. It was an inspection of the EGR cooler with a borescope and some parts removal, if they found evidence of seepage, a leak they replaced parts, it was not a bring it in for your new cooler etc, so sit back and see what the recall really is.

Of course no parts are available at the dealership to do the recall!

Of course not because the recall has to go public ASAP for safety reasons, the same time as they start ramp up production for the needed parts what can take weeks or even months.

To my thinking it has to be that way, otherwise they would hold back informations about safety risks and get sued afterwards.

My eco diesel is in the waiting period for the part, dealer will not take it in trade. So, I left it with them as the reluctor ring failed, that took almost 3 weeks. They wanted it, we agreed to a mutual price, recall was announced and they backed out.

What a disaster this VM 3.0 has become for many Owners, My New Policy is NO more European Vehicles or Engines.....In long term ownership the risk is just to Great...

Do not believe what you read, I deal with shops all over NA, and the cost to repair these Vehicles is 2-4 Times that of Domestic Vehicles, Yesterday a local shop had a Land Rover in for NO window defrost, It was $4,000.00 to fix the entire first 1/2 of the cab Seats and the entire dash needed to be removed to fire wall. and the Blended Operator cost alone was $1,300.00.. Another Employee of TWR had a Mini Cooper He spent $8,000.00 in repairs in 8 Years of ownership.

The 3.0VM is manufactured in Cento Italy.

HVAC2, I would press the Issue on the Price, Myself being a former parcel Owner of a Ram Franchise, Its bad business to back out, Nothing Stops you from toying with them in the Future...If you know what I mean.

Im lucky in that we have max care and its all covered. Trying to get it shipped back home. I will go after them for that charge.

I did buy a CTD, new 2018. But, got the 8/125 max care in the deal. For me I won't own a new diesel w/o the coverage and will sell it b4 it expires. Life is too short and I cant fix anything.

I enjoyed reading Your comment their, I'm banned from that ^&*%, LMBO Now, some of those MODS still have blinder on, Their beloved GDE is closed up, Back in 16 Told told GDE to cut ties with that place (1500diesel.com) I'm sure GDE is sorrowing in not listening...

I notice your following this thread
(GDE) Funny you should ask. CARB just a week ago finally allowed us to apply for an EO on the ecodiesel application. They would not allow EO applications the last 3 years due to EPA investigation into FCA. We are working on CARB compliant tunes now and hope to be through their process in a few months. If the EPA does not force bankruptcy, then we will be back on the market soon enough.

WHY does GDE think their special...Many of us have been complaint for Years, GDE clearly violated every law..Heck they were deceiving FCA or any maker by NOT properly labeling their Product, IMO in NO way should they get rewarded for clearly VIOLATING CAA laws. Hmmmm who's going to return their 3.0VM back to stock?

GDE put 0 effort in complying, Now that they are facing Punishment , clemency should be extended ....LMBO

Yea, it's a long story and I never thought bragging openly about violating the clean air act was a good idea. It was to me all very predictable, and it appears CARB is closing in.

I gave up, vastly outnumbered and did learn from that forum that max care is the best decision I ever made. Especially on the ED!!

I've driven genuine FIAT Vehicles for half of my life, reliable and cheap to fix.
Can't complain about them.

That European Luxury brands like Land Rover, Merc or BMW (Mini Cooper!) are expensive to fix is common knowledge.

Well Ozy, Then the 3.0VM must be Luxury Engine.

C'mon Ozy, When you tell someone that its going to cost $3000.00+ to fix the defrost, The look is WTH, I don't have $3K I just spent $2K fixing the water Pump and belts.

Well, yes, for Europe the 3.0VM is a huge engine and therefore only installed in high end luxury vehicles.
Common engines for everyday cars are in the range between 1.2-1.8 Liters and are 3-4 Cylinders.

And yes, 3000$ for the heater is ridiculous but you can not blame the whole European car brands for such an excess. There are Differences.

Cheap everyday vehicles come from Renault, PSA, FIAT, and less from Skoda and Seat.
Medium Range is Opel, Ford and less VW
Premium is Volvo, Mercedes, BMW, Rover, Audi, Mini, Alfa-Romeo.

All My experience with European vehicles is not good in almost all case My American vehicles have excel them in every category... I'm Not Bias either. I like Volvo Mack and FPT has some of the best power plants (Dsl) in the World.

I call BMW BE MY WAY.

Asking the VM3.0 to survive In America in the 1/2 Truck Market a Big Mistake... its a fact Now with 5 years of History to support that claim.

I get your point, especially in the long run the US Cars last better.
In Europe 100'000Km is an old car, way down in value.
Above 200'000Km is seldom as a unicorn.
See the difference?

We said it before, FPT has really nice and lasting commercial engines, but only with 4 Cylinders in that displacement range.
So they went with that infamous VM Diesel - and pushed it beyond its design limits in the Hp/Tq Range for a heavy vehicle like the Ram.
Maybe that's the reason why that engine is trouble free in a bazillion of European Grand Cherokees.
