Newbie could use some knowledge

New Cummins owner

Just bought my first new diesel truck 06' 3500/quad cab/LB/4x4/Auto to tow a 40' fifth wheel. Many have shared advice, but I am some what overwhelmed. My intent is to get max life from truck. Has plenty of power for my use now, just want to protect the investment. Really have three questions:

1. I have ordered gauges for EGT, pyro, trans temp, and diff temp. Are there advantages to monitoring other systems for my application?

2. I have ordered the extended trans and diff pans with ports for gauges probes, but many are suggesting placing the probe in the line out vs the pan for the trany... which is my best bet? Should I watch both?

3. Should I monitor EGT pre turbo, post turbo, or both?

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

all those are exellent choises, you should get a boost gauge as well it will monitor the power you truck is making and can be used as a guide for future problems. the egt should be installed in the manifold(pre turbo), i would also invest in a quality synthetic fluid for you truck, i choose amsoil. have fun Oo.

The main things you need to monitor are boost, EGT (pre turbo), and transmission temp. The diffs won't overheat no matter what you do to them (they come stock with synthetic lube). My choice for transmission temp probe is the one provided on the side of the aftermarket pan you're using.

You'll love this truck and it'll last forever.

Why would you what to monitor the EGT (pre turbo) and not post? Is this safe for the turbo? Is there any danger of the turbo injesting a lose sensor probe??

The primary reason for mounting the probe pre turbo as opposed to post turbo is the better readings are pre turbo.

The difference in temp is something like 200 degrees or thats what Iv heard anyway.
