New rims

Hey all... .



It is about that time for me to get some new tires... well some how I got this bright idea that at the same time I would upgrade the rims as well. I am looking at 18x9 and then running some 305 treads. Are there any rims that I need to stay away from, or any that you all recomend? Looked at Xtreme Alloys, Ice Metal -889's, and a few others. Thanks for the advice... .

it is a 2001. 5 CTD 2500... no lift or leveling kit applied yet.

The thing I have found is that it is REALLY hard to find a aftermarket wheel that is the right offset. They are either factory offset or stick out of the fender wells 4 inches. What I am looking for is a wheel that has 1. 5 inches less of backspacing than factory so the 315 tires won't rub at full lock.

I'm running 315's with after market rims and they don't rub. They're 17" X 9. Check out the photo's in the gallery Silver Streak.

I'm looking really hard at the Mickey Thompson 17x9's. They have 5" of backspacing as do many other 9" wheels. I had some 16x10's with 4. 5" backspacing with 315's and a Skyjacker 4. 5" kit. It still rubbed everwhere.



Now that I am back to stock height, I am looking at the D25 coils with the 17x9's and some 33's or 35's.

I run the 17x8 Weld wheels with 4. 625" backspacing with 37" BFG tires and I have NEVER rubbed with 4. 5" lift. I don't go offroad much, does your rubbing occur at a large amount of articulation? . . or does it rub on a daily basis while turning.

I really like the weld rims... but not sure I want to spend the $450 a wheel. but the fact that they are all foraged is really enticing. The one thing that I do know is that i don't want that tire to stick out a mile from the sides of the truck. As far a rubbing, I don't see a problem... I have a friend that has an 03 w/ 315 and stock rims 17" that only rub when he is really cranking it around. I figure that as long as i stay 305 or lower it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, Eagle rims are good for cast wheels. The main downfall (to me) about cast rims is that if you whack the bead area of a cast wheel on a curb or rock it will TEND to crack/break whereas a forged wheel will TEND to bend like a steel wheel. Capacity is better on forged, Welds are rated over 3000lbs and OK'd up to a 44" tire... but they DO cost more!
