My Bridgestone Transforce tires not only were almost to the wear bars from use but the night before last the front left developed a big "wart" under the tread and started thump thump thumping.

Had been putting off replacing the tires until the end of summer but it was not to be.

Decided to go with the Michelin LTX M/S2 this time since I had been hearing good things. WOW, what a ride difference! :) Handling is tight and they actually seem quieter. (which is not exactly a big point with the diesel running)

Got 85000 miles out the Trnasforce... . we'll see how the Michelin fairs out.

Nice. My cousin runs a tire store, he always says; "a set of Michelins solves all kinda problems". I have owned a few of them, very nice tires, ride great, wear VERY long.

DMather, is yours 2wd or 4wd? I ask, because I know the roads in Hebron, and in winter they are a bit sketchy!! Which Michelin did you get? LTX MS2? AT2?
(I'm in Woodstock!)

2WD

Have not had any issues, even in the middle of some of the nasties over the past few years.
I had snow tires I put on the back for a while in 2007-2008 but actually took them off mid-winter. The Transforce did a better job.
Anxious to try the Michelins. LTX M/S2 So far I only seem to be down about 1mpg... probably just from the fresh tread vs the non-existent tread.

Heading out to fill up and make a 400 mile road trip today so I'll know pretty fast any changes.

I"m a native of Woodstock... but had to move... it got too big and it was full of city slickers that wanted to get away from the big city and then convert where they went... . 800-1200 population suits me fine. ;-)

Yep, and utterly useless on anything but hard pack roads. Drive off the road, call a tow truck. THAT is one problem the long wearing tires do not solve.

Cerb, I do have to commend the TransForce AT for their off-road traction compared to the Michelin LTX M/S2. I think the TransForce HT may by comparable to the Michelin in off road conditions. When snow comes, and those long, open, drifting roads are sketchy, I think the LTXs with some weight in the bed will get the job done very nicely. Slippery mud, however... AT all the way. They have a very open tread pattern (TransForce AT)
We have exclusively used the TFAT on our porta potty trucks that use 16" wheels and have been very pleased. Muddy, slippery construction sites, snow, highway. . they jut work very well. They can be purchased almost anywhere and are cheap! No blowouts, tread separations.

Oh, I agree on the AT's, probably a lot better traction that an HT. The HT tires off the road are useless even on 4x4. On the road, the Michelins were great even on snow and ice with a little care. Don't try crossing a wet median though. :(
