I ordered new Bilsteins (blue) from Geno's while they were on sale.
Last week I had them installed. The old ones Bilstein (blue) were still pretty resistant to compression after 100k miles. I feel like I may have wasted my $$$ on new ones at this time.
The rear duals were bouncing a little on sharp bumps under acceleration. That is the reason I replaced them. It is real hard to feel the difference with the new ones...........damn.

But now I know I have excellent shocks for at least another 100k.

Bilsteins should be factory on these trucks.. I put the 5100's on all 4 corners of my truck awhile back... AWESOME!

do they make that big of a difference? I have the stock shocks on my mega with 65,000 on the ticker. what are the benefits of the bilsteins?

I put standard Bilsteins (yellow/blue) on my truck last spring at 38k miles. They do make a difference over the stock shocks. The ride was much better and the front end was in control - not bobbing around when you hit a dip in the road. The rear of the truck was somewhat better over the sharp bumps. When I removed the stock shocks they felt like they had decent compression and I thought I was making a mistake but then I took it for a test drive and I knew I made the right choice.

Same here. My 2006 model only had 55K on it, never been offroad. When I dropped the rears, I immediately thought, "Well, I just wasted that money!" But once I took it for a ride with the new 5100's on all 4 corners, WOW!. Felt better than I remember the truck ever driving.

Jack you sound disapointed but your experience sounds like a good testament to the durability of the shocks.... lots of damping ability left after 100k miles of Alaska road driving is impressive.

Don't throw them away- put them on ebay. I even sold my original shocks on ebay for a few $ and made a couple of dollars on the shipping.

I replaced stock shocks on my wife's 2003 2500 (mine now) with Bilsteins (yellow blue). Definite improvement. I bought my wife a Caddy and took her 2500. Want bigger tires and firmer shocks, but can't bring myself to replace either while they are still good. I like Rancho RS9000s better with fronts on level 9 (max) and rears at 5 unloaded and 9 loaded. I like the firmer ride. B\May never replace the Bilsteins as they are like Ranchos and never seem to wear out.
