Replaced the factory shocks at 156k miles. Put new nineteen 5100's all the way around and I'm not sure that it helped anything. Do the new shocks have to "break in"? Also, island if this is due to the new shocks but now when I'm on the highway it feels like the truck is "unstable". I had a 94 suburban once with 11 inches of lift and 40x17 inch tires. The way The truck feels now is very similar to the way the suburban felt. Almost as if it's swaying. Any ideas anyone?

I've got Bilsteins (5100s) all the way around and my truck feels fine. But I've never tried "nineteen" brand... (damn you, auto-correct):-laf:-laf:-laf

Haha. I didn't Even notice. That's by far one of the more innocent auto corrects I've had happen.
I wish I could figure out what the sway is. Itmay have nothing to do with the shocks

My steering seems loose as well. I have to herd the truck down the road. I have steering stabilizer that mounts to the frame, 08 steering linkage upgrade. Rancho steering shock. What am I missing here?

timeless, Did you put 2" spacers in front? If so, you might need some more caster dialed into the front end. Also, do you have urethane track bar bushings? Those helped my wandering feel.

Rancho steering stabilizer is the first thing I would
Throw in the scrap bin, even the OEM ones are much beter

I have a Skyjacker stabilizer and it's okay, but I am going to replace it with a 5100 stabilizer. One thing you might want to look at are the sway bar end links. If they are worn or broken you'll get that. I replaced the factory POS end links on mine with a set of Lorenz link ends from Genos. Those along with new polyurethane sway bar bushings and some new polyurethane track bar bushings made a huge difference for me. I also just today had the factory ball joints replaced with a set of Dynatracs. Can't wait to see how it feels tomorrow on the road.

Hey timeless, have you checked your sway bar end links? When mine went bad, the truck would kinda roll sideways and back, making me feel like I had to keep "driving" it instead of just steadying it. I got some Max links from Geno's

Tim, you posted while I was peckin out a post and beat me to the draw! I got my Max Links before Geno had Lorenz. They sure look stouter (in size and price!). I have some Carli joints, but am waiting on my ship to come in so I can do some lockouts at the same time. I got a stabilizer from Defiant when I got a steering box support. Don't know what brand it is, but it does the job for me. Mark

Mark,

I had considered going with the MAXX Links, but I had read mixed reviews about them on here (TDR). I also looked at the Carli end links, but they are even pricier than the Lorenz end links. I had read a lot of good stuff about the Lorenz end links, and yes, they are more expensive than the MAXX Links but with it (IMHO). The heim joint on them is WAY better than the ball/socket joint on the OEM end links. I have been very pleased with them. As for the new ball joints, the truck drove great this morning. I almost have to learn to drive it all over again.
