Well, the time came for new tires. The original BFG Rugged Trails have a few thousand summer miles left, but it's not summer in Northern Nevada. Plus, I killed one while elk hunting. WOW!#@$%! Are these 265/70-17's pricey. I got a set of Pirelli Scorpion ATR's. They rated very highly and were quite a bit less than many others. I almost fell over at Les Schwab when I found out their Toyo AT's were around $250 per! That's before install, tax, tire disposal fee, etc. As I drive, I'll make reports since I don't see much on here re: this particular tire.

I, for one, would really appreciate those reports. I'm going to make it this winter, but not next with these tires I have. Looks like I'm going to get 24K-26K out of these BFG Rugged Trails. I kind of miss the Michelin's, but I traded work for these tires.

I got 41K out of the Rugged Trails. There is still tread left, but I don't think it would be wise to try snow with them.

First report--very quiet on the road, must be all that rubber on them! Responsive too, even at less than max pressure. This is on dry pavement.

I just remembered those were the tires Ford replaced on my mother's Excursion. The factory put LR-D tires on it and it was recalled for it. They put a brand new set of Pirelli Scorpions on it LR-E at no cost to her. They were good tires, and if I remember correctly, she got about 60K miles out of them.

I put the scorpions on last month. 265/70/17 E cost $125. 00 ea. from tire rack. They seem to have taller straighter sidewall than my last tires ( no bulge) and my wife swears they ride a lot better.

I've had an opportunity now to drive them in the snow, and on packed ice/snow. So far, so good. As long as you don't do anything quickly, they seem to grip well and the snow appears to clear from the grooves quickly. Looks like the good ratings were for a reason.
