A few months ago I saw in the news about new emissions testing in Texas. During the normal state inspection the shop will also test for emissions. Something not previously done.

Anyone from TX had to get their truck inspected yet?

Do they even test the diesel emissions or is it just for gassers? If so, what all do they look at?

Thanks

No emissions testing for diesels at least in Dallas and Collin county. Not sure about Denton. I really doubt you'll have emissions testing in Denton county.

Hope this helps...

That's good to know.

I've heard some real nightmare stories about what the gassers are going through in Texas. Maybe it's just rumors, but I hear most cars just aren't passing the test. Even some of the newer gas vehicles can't get passed. Granted that warranties will cover emissions repair. But who wants to go through the pain of taking your car back to the dealer?

Well, I been telling everyone to invest in diesel engine transportation. Wouldn't had to deal with this if they'd listen to us.

Never liked the way gasoline engines smelled anyways...

Your comment reminded me of when I came back from a trip to Flagstaff, Arizona on Saturday. Don't the gassers especially stink when they're working hard going up hill... it just has a certain stench that you can smeel if you're driving with the windows down or the vent on. Is it just me or does diesel smell better and better the harder it's worked?

Your Exempt!!!

Lazy-Boy,

From what I understand, there are a few counties in Texas that required an emissions test to be performed for the vehicle to pass an inspection. These counties include: Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrent, and Harris. I believe that there are more counties than this that actually require the emissions test. There is an 8 county area in the Houston metro area included in the speed limit reduction and TNRCC mobile testing area. It is only a matter of time before Warton, Ft Bend, Galveston, etc are all included in the emissions testing area. The nice thing is that you drive a DIESEL. AND YOU ARE EXEMPT. Read it for yourself: The DPS and TNRCC have web pages full of information:

As for folks not passing the test, yes I work with several folks who have vehicles that will not pass the test. One has a mid '90s model suburban with a 454 and the other has an early '90s model Ford P/U. Both have 120K+ so this can be expected. If your vehicle does not pass, you can present your car for re-test at a facility. But I'll let you read the fine print on the web site.

Happy Clattering.
