I read an article in a mag a while back about a new multi layer head gasket that cummins has developed for the common rail engine that will work in the 24v engines that will handle very high boost pressures and eliminate the need for fire rings. Has anyone tried to run one of these yet instead of spending the $ on fire rings?

Already looked into installing the '03+ HG on the 98-02... Won't work, the oil passages are different sizes. In the near future, expect Cometic Gaskets to come out with some sort of multi-layer steel gasket.

I hope they do, Cometics are what I use on the race motor, they hold 15. 5:1 compression just fine!!!! My Honda Accord uses a multi-layer gasket also :D

I can't remember what mag but reading all your posts I remembered it is the cometic multi-layer steel gasket similar to the ones cummins uses in the CRD.
