You are right about closing refineries in the 70's and 80's... . the news doesn't tell you that! My uncle had worked for a large company that put mergers together. He used to say that the large oil companies would buy the smaller oil companies... only to own their refineries... . and then shut them down.
This happened over 70 times in the 70's alone. The oil companies could not control supply with all those smaller refineries operating... so they bought them and shut them down. They don't have to give a reason, although they told their stockholders the refineries were too small to be profitable. If true, why would the large oil companies buy a company that was losing money? They actually capped the wells in TX, Oklahoma and Louisiana and they are capped to this day.
Oil wells capped and refineries shut down... my uncle gets very upset when he hears all the BS stories being spoonfed to us... Mr Stupid American.
Oil goes up because it got cold in the NE. No kidding, it's been doing that for like a gozillion years. Oil demand is up, then uncap the wells! Hurricanes disable 1 or 2 Gluf platforms and the entire countries oil goes up. The stories go on and on. The best stories in Pennsylvania & NJ were back in the 70's during the "OIL SHORTAGE". . actually oil EMBARGO. The Arabs, in protest to us supporting Israel in the 1973 Arab/Israeli war... shut off the wells. Oil started to go up the same day, the part where the oil companies got busted were when TV helicopters flew off the coast of where our refineries are. They shot video of many loaded crude oil tankers just laying off the coast... waiting for crude oil to get higher... while we ran out of refined products. I am telling you boys, it is a scary world out there, a world that we will never understand nor be allowed to understand. I don't know how high oil will go, but rest assured we will never run out of a product that we can pay for.

That would make No Difference at all!!!! Don't hear anything from the Free Trade Guys when they are faced with the Capping wells and Closing Refineries all to MANIPULATE the $$$$$$$$$$... These clowns should be Taken Over and Federalized - It's a National Security Issue!!! But that won't happen with oil intereste running the country and the Minions hanging onto every word they say... . :-{}
