Hello! I've been lurking while my TDR membership got approved. I'm the proud owner of a stock 99 4x4 2500. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I kept my Volkswagen Rabbit alive for the most part before I got this beauty. So I've been trying to learn as much as I can about 4x4ing, diesel quirks, etc.

My biggest question for the group is: what should be done to my rig for making sure it's going to last? There are a few TSBs I've seen (the PCM update, for example) that make me think I'm living on the edge. Is there anything I should make sure the dealer fixes right now?

I've got another question, but I'll make a separate post for that... .

First welcome aboard. Second, do the routine maintenance on your truck and add a fuel pressure guage, that is about all you should need to keep it happy for a long time. Search the forums for details on a fuel pressure guage, you will find lots of info.

Okay, so after all this forum reading, I assumed that Bombing was a specific modification, but lately it seems like it just refers to any kind of modification. What's it actually mean?

Welcome aboard Nemies. Bombing is any modification done to your cummins turbo diesel. B. O. M. B. is an acronymn for Better Off Modified Baby!

I take it it doesn't really include add-ons? (Rhinoliner, etc?)

But I guess I'm already BOMBed... the work I did to get my CB cable into the cab was tricky, and the antennas mounts would count too. #ad

Excellent. Thanks, guys. I'm reading this stuff as fast as I can. Trying to figure out what I should have added that won't be insane overkill (I don't tow anything REALLY heavy), but I don't want to compromise my towing ability, as I imagine most lifts would.

Nemies, welcome to the board!!!!
To make your truck last a long time just do your routine preventative maintence ie: changing the fluids use quality filters and good oil. Run it hard just don't abuse it and it will last forever!!!!!Pete
