In the past two weeks, I have gotten two new recruits for TDR. One of the mechanics where I work who owns an '02 and now, my younger brother, who just bought a very nice Texas gunmetal grey '02 2500 with a 6-speed (I'm jealous!). Actually, I like everything about his truck except I prefer my 12-valve.

My brother relied heavily on my advice as to whether or not to purchase the '02. I hope I steered him right about that year and drivetrain setup being a very good one. Mine is a '96 and looks the same outside, but very different under the hood.

I am unable to answer their questions about the 24-valve motor. I'm not even an expert about my own 12-valve. I told them that the cost of membership here was well worth it and that everything they ever want to know (and a few things they don't, but need to) could be found or asked-and-answered here.

I know you guys will give them both a good welcome as well as good advice. Someone tell my brother he got steered right by his older brother, too, OK? :-laf

Sounds like you've done some serious mods to yours! Wow! And I like that color very much! You are one of the guys he will be very interested to hear from, I'm sure. I'm trying to decide between Pewter (doesn't show dirt), Gunmetal Grey, or Darth Vader black for my eventual color-change from two-tone Maroon over Silver.

I told him to keep his new ride exactly stock until he has spent many weeks reading posts and archives here and gets used to his big truck (his is a longbed) and decides what, if anything, he wants to do.

Whether spending unbelievable sums on his world-class daily driver or even more to restore his antique '42 Chrysler, he is far worse than me about liking to modify things and he is an intolerable perfectionist, too. You should see the awesome Jeep Scrambler he is giving up after all these years to switch to the Cummins Dodge! He'll make a nice profit even after paying for the Dodge. That Scrambler is his Baby (he has no kids) and I had better have steered him right!

I could've paid off my mortgage with what he has in that Jeep! Lucky duck lives in San Diego, too, where the weather doesn't take it's toll on vehicles like it does here in rustbelt Iowa. His stay nice. I can only imagine what he will do to this new '02 Dodge Cummins... Whether mild or wild, it WILL be even nicer than it already is.

I would have loved to get the longbed, but I lived in a military barracks at the time I bought it and parking was horrible at best. Could barely fit into the parking spots as it was, so a longbed was out of the question. The charcoal gray metallic(what DC calls it) hides dirt fairly well, I wanted black also, but everyone seemed to have that color back then... . As far as mods, if you think my list of mods is long, let me introduce you to the rest of the site. ;)
