In my search for new tires I've discovered Goodyear is about to release an E rated version of their Wrangler SilentArmor tire in a 285/75R16 size. The best part is, as near as I can determine, it will have a 50,000 mile tread wear warranty.

See them on the GY web site here

The main problem is they are in pre-production and no one, including Goodyear, can say when they'll be available. They are not cheap, either (Goodyear is quoting prices to dealers). But with a mileage warranty, it may be worth it compared to other E rated tires that don't have one.

My only hope in posting this here is that those of you looking for tires can turn up the heat by contacting Goodyear retailers and show some interest, and hopefully get Goodyear on the ball.

You couldn't pay me enoungh money to ever install another set of "Blimp" tires on my truck. After having 2 sets of the Wrangler M/T tires split the belts in less than 7,000 miles and the have the dealer here try to say it was my fault, never again. Goodyear has one of the worst tire cases I have ever come across and all you are paying for is the name, not quality. There are other companies out there who have E Rated tires in the larger sizes... ... . Andy

Hammer,

Thanks for relating your experience. Goodyears are not often metioned here as popular tires on our rigs. Maybe that's why.

But what caught my eye was the mileage warranty. I know there's a number of 10 ply (E rated) tires in the 285-16 size with A/T or mud and snow tread, but not with a mileage warranty.

Do you know of any with a warranty that are worth a damn on wet or snowy roads and still run decent on dry pavement in the summer?

Thanks,

Jay
