Just installed BFG AT 315/70/17's Went to Carson Dodge to recalibrate everything. Service writer said they could only go up 1/2" in tire size to recalibrate. Any thoughts.

Thanks

Tell him he is full of it I know many members have had speedo's recalibrated w/o any problems. I'm sure others will chime in about this but I belive that it is 607 rev's per mile for that size tire

i saw where tire rack or someone publishes revolutions per mile for tires they sell..... and it is a factor of that number being updated to my knowledge. i would find another dealer...

Seems to be a dealer thing, either they know how and will do it or they don't know how or are scarred to do it.

I used 605 Revs Per Mile for my "Pinion Factor" value for my BFG 31/70R/17s. The BFG spec sheet says 601, but I saw another owner with same truck/trans/tires who used 605 and his GPS pretty much was dead on with mph and distance checks.

It is a simple change using the Dealer DRBIII tool. My dealer service manager did mine for nothing in less than 5 minutes. It is an option in the ABS menu section, an "Other" value for "Pinion Factor".

When I purchased my 06MC from Tomeygun in Nov. 2005 he said they were NOT able to recalibrate the 06 like the 05 and earlier models. Apparently there is an option to change ring gear ratio from either 3. 73 or 4. 10 but no rev/mile option. Things may have changed since Nov and if so I too would like to know so I can my also.

cheers,

Jason

Bfgoodrich web site says 601, which is what I did mine to and it a hair off. The first time I went to our "5 star dealer" they told me the same thing, only one tire size up. I did a little research here, went back and got a little loud with them and they figured out THERE machine with my assistance from what I learned here, and got it done. gOOd luck...

shift points

Is it possible that that with a recalibration of speedo it would help firm up or at least change the shift points of the transmission. for example if 1st to 2nd was at 15mph and 1500 rpm factory and now with 33's it shifts at 15mph speedo and rpm is 1200 it lugs a bit. also any idea what the number of revs would be for a 33" tire? thanks

What research?

Ive been trying to do some research here that i could take to the dealership and have my speedo recailbrated for my 35x12. 5x17's on my 06 mega. What did you find that helped the dealership do this?

I understand that with the '06-07's the dealer can only recalibrate to the 285-70-17 size which is stock on the 2500 Power Wagons. :{

I went today to the dealer to get my speedo recalibrated for my Toyo 325. They put in 600 rpm for the change. The dealer said 03-05 can be done and 06 and newer only 285 (33") tires.

As for shift point changes. It shift alittle different (1st & 2nd gear)recalibrated than being in stock. I do have an aftermarket tc & vb. At 70 mph I'm @ 1,800 rpm.

dealership here said that I would have to buy a box to plug into the harness and get a gps to set my speedo. I laughed and told them I did not have one on there, but the speedo was correct with the 35's I took off. I put Toyo 285-75-17's on. I was told they could only do one size up with their machines also. I gave them revolutions per mile and they figured it out. Good luck

Just had my 285 75 17 Toyo's re calibrated last weekend. Don't know about the revolutions, but it seems to be pretty close compared to what the rpm's and speeds were on my 265 70 17 BFG's. I decreased about 200 RPM's which seems pretty close. I will put a gps on it one of these days. I do know my fuel mileage indicator went back up to 19. 2, so they did something. I know it's probably not right, but I have a theory about fuel..... I'm gonna put in what ever it takes to get where I'm going!!

Also had the serpentine belt chirp TSB done. No more noise. the tech did mention the fact that i wouldn't know if my belt broke cause I wouldn't hear the chirp on shutdown. I told him theres these little things with needles on them by the speedometer mainly the voltage and temp ones that will tell me long before I turn the engine off!! Cant complain though cause they covered every thing under warranty and took less than an hour.

rock on

I am next door to you in Bodega Bay and I had mine done at Lithia Dodge Santa Rosa. I take it that's where you go. As stated in my post above they told me w/ 2006 and newer they can not go any higher than 33" (285) tires. I had a Superchips that I would of gave to you bacically, but just sold it cheap. I seen somewhere that Pro Comp has a tire size changer, shift points, etc. for $299. Its not a performance programmer, but everything else. It's new and I have seen some advertisments in the Diesel Magazine.

When I had my spedo re-cal. the two things the computer asked was, rev. per mile and how many teeth on the ring sensor. On the 11. 5 the number is 120, I am right on now with 35's

When I bought my truck new, I had them put on 315/70's right off the bat and told them to recalibrate the speedo. They came back and said they could not calibrate the tire to that height and they can only go up and down about an inch in size which the factory 265's are 31. 61 inches tall. They even let me try to calibrate the tire size with there machine and I could only get it to calibrate it to 32. 5 inches tall. That is all they could do. I know all of the guys in the shop, so they didn't care if I messed with their machines.
