I love the way these trucks look with 285's. Cooper Discoverer S/T 285/70r17.

Should I do the power wagon flares now?

truck looks good, flares are your decision, just remember they'll eat your paint, there's been a long thread on here about them

Keep us informed on the tires and the wear would you. I was look at a set of them to replace the current tires on my truck.

TIA

Spend the money instead on Roof lights and a chrome bug deflector. Great looking truck. Deep winter here in CT. Wish I was liveing where you are. Which is where?
Beautiful truck.

Are there ANY flares that don't cut into the paint? Before I installed the mud flaps on my '07, I made up some 3M clear rock guard plastic strips to fit between the flaps and tha paint.

Do yourself a huge favour and forget the flare idea. I had Bushwacker flares on mine, they caused alot of damage by wearing through the paint and trapping fine crud/sand between the flare and the body which resulted in rust.

I never would have known the extent of the damage until it was extensive, and expensive. But I tore one off on some brush, the extent of the damage around each flare was not pretty. But for the most part I got before it was to serious.

I had the area the flares covered plus the entire lower body sides including the rocker panels and door insides coated in Linex.

Expensive yes, but I do not regret a penny of it. The Linex has stood up very well. It looks good and does a superb job of protecting the truck from whatever.

I posted pictures of it in a post in the spring of 08.

If your serious about protecting your truck forget the flares and get it Linexed.

I have the power wagon flares and love them. I just applied a layer of Scotchgard Paint Protection Film under the rubber moulding that touches the paint. I've had them on for over a year and my paint is fine, no damage at all.

Yes ... go for it!

I just installed a set of Pro Comp 35" tires and added a SkyJacker 2" levelling kit to the front and I find that the truck looks perfect with this combination. You will find the Power Wagon flares to be the best fitting option out there . . . after all they get installed at the factory. No paint issues and they have been on for 2 and a half years.

I think the flares make the wheel wells look larger and require a 305-315+ sized tire to not make the truck look too lifted. If you have 285s it may make the tires look relatively small.

Hate to hear about the problems that they cause, but glad I find out. I've had mine on a few years without problems, but I should consider the Scotchguard or line - x. I line-xed the rockers and love it. Should have just done the fenders.

I agree with Mr. Goat. I had bushwacker fender flares on my truck at one time. They looked nice however they caused damage underneath. they scratched the paint underneath really bad. Not quite to the point of rust, but any longer and they would have. I got all 4 fenders and the rockers line-ex. I looks fanastic and will pretect much better than the flares ever will.

Line ex might be exdpensive but will be worth it.

Unless you have offset wheels you usually don't need flares. I think the mild OEM flares look good though. What I think looks goofy are the trucks with OEM wheels (no offset) and giant flares that gobble up the tires and wheels.

I had 20mm offset wheels on my 02' with the milder looking Bushwacker flares and it was needed because the tires were past the fenders. My truck would throw rocks and mud down the entire side of the truck. The bigger flares can look good but they have to have the right offset wheels. I think for ultimate care some Rhino Liner under the flares would be great but probably cost as much as the flares.

Still hoping the OP will post up on his experience with the Coopers. I'm close to buying tires, and these are a candidate.
