I put on a new set of tires on Saturday. Pathfinder Load range E. Pulling a trailer it felt like it was wandering all over the road. With my worn out junk tires it was perfect. Any thoughts ?

Sounds like you are experiencing the new tread flex on the tires. Is it very tall tread? and what style of tread is it?

Have the tire dealer check to see if the tires are the same diameter. Your tires might've come from different batches. I was talking with a Detroit Locker rep onetime. He mentioned this.

A friend put new tires on his older Ford p/u. It also developed a serious wonder. Turns out the new tires had a solid rib running down the middle of the tire. This caused a problem on his rig but other rigs had no problem.

Pathfinder=house brand.

Pathfinder is Discount's house brand. They have a tire rating chart in their store and Pathfinder is rock bottom on the good, better, best list. See If they'll sitch them out for some Michelins. They supposedly have a satisfaction warranty, although I've never found that to be true.

I put some of Discount Tire's Dominator tires on the back of my truck and the rear end swayed side to side running down the freeway empty. It felt like my old '62 Corvair with bad shocks.

I had a similar problem. Put new goodyears (ATS) on. Next day hooked up 31' fifth wheel and headed south. Left NY and by PA was scared to drive. all over the road unless i was down to 45mph. Made very slow trip to orlando and went to a great goodyear dealer. The tires had about 900 miles. Dealer called goodyear. they determined the ATS tire was 5 rib they had the dealer replacethem at no cost to me with RTS 4 rib tires, SOLVED THE PROBLEM. Hope this helps

I went with the cheap tires cause my truck does not see many miles at all these days. I put on a reese dual cam anti sway and problem has went away. I still swap them out though .

Different brand of tires have different characteristics run them about

2000 miles and you probably want even notice it. :cool:

I think you need to go with a better tire. The sidewalls are possibly not as good as on a premium tire. I have my 2nd set of OEM tires on my 03' and pulling my 12,500lb trailer. I have never had problems with the trailer wandering, and often wonder why people have dually trucks. I can have Truck & Trailer pass me at 80, and I don't even feel it!

Party I know someone who put Pathfinders on their '97 and he says the sidewalls are pretty soft and it feels like it wallows a bit going down the freeway changing lanes. . . I can imagine them being scary with a load.

Yeah, Its like we used to say about our motorcycle helmets: "Ten dollar head, ten dollar helmet. "

The same thing applies to tires.

But, our trucks have a tendency to wander around so Ive noticed every new set of tires needed to break in for a few hundred miles before it drove decent. Dont know if that applies here, just my experience. Im dealing with some new BFG A/Ts right now, its kind of annoying but getting better.

My last mud tires drove great (when they were worn out) when new they wandered. .

Yours will probably improve with a few miles especially since they are E rated. But how much is the question. .

That doesn't look like a ride I'd want to take. Back to the original question re: the wandering, try lowering the pressures in the front by 5 psi and raising them in the rear by 5 psi. I think your wander problems will improve.

Just curious if the wander has improved after driving a while or was there another solution. . My BFG ATs are driving much better after about 500 miles on them.
