Just had new Michelin LTX MS/2s put on today. The only thing I can say is, "why did I wait so long. " Amazingly quiet, smooth ride even on bumpy roads and much better handling. The truck had Goodyear Wrangler A/Ts (came on the truck).

The Michelins are far superior.

Thanks to all who recommended them and I can't recommend them highly enough.

265/70/17

Load E I believe. I paid $1200 mounted and balanced at a local dealer. (I like to support local small businesses)

Yep, Michelins have always been a superior tire in my experience and in the experience of others. Also, a surprising amount of traction for a tire that doesn't look aggressive. I would use them on my truck if they made a 285/70/17 LRE.
Congratulations on your purchase.

I recently put those tires on as my steer tires and was equally impressed.

In fact, I was so impressed, that I replaced the worn out Revos (also a good tire) on my wifes Jeep Liberty CRD with the MS/2's also.

I installed mine a 1 1/2 ago almost 15,000 miles on them, rotate the tires every 6,000 miles. To me they are the best tire on the market for my needs.

YUP... . you, me and a whole bunch of other ram truck drivers too!!!

Why that particular size?

The Michelin site says you can get them in that size... not sure about LRE though.

You are right, they make them in a 285/75/17, but NOT in a LRE.
Many drivers like the way that diameter tire look and work with our trucks, but want the added capacity and sidewall stability of a LRE, as opposed to a LRD.
