Go for it! I just put Hankook 235/85/16's on my 99 dually. No problems with clearance. The 235's are 32" in diameter the 215's were 30". Other's have said that the speedometer should only be off by like 2. 5 mph but I have noticed closer to 5 mph at 65. Maybe my speedometer was off to begin with??? Anyhow, the only think I have noticed that is different is the way the ABS reacts. I guess that since the computer thinks your doing a certain speed but you are actually going faster it gets confussed and releases the brakes a little more than it should. It also seems to engage the ABS much quicker than before. I got 44,000 miles from the factory Michilins. For a 10 ply tire and a 7200 lb. truck I don't consider that bad for the way I drive and the loads I haul.

About tire size

I found out and read here that there are 3 settings on the computer for the size of tires. So, check to see what was the full line of tire oppsions for your truck and see if the computer can be reset to the right setting. 1 dealer I talked to said it was a $60. 00 charge. I thought the highes rated tire was a D as the tire shop told me, wrong its an E rated needed. Thats what I thought I said and got home, ( after the fact) and had D's on. I have an auto trans and found larger tires to lug the engine down and at slower speed I take out of Overdrive. Would be useing 5th gear instead of 6th or 4th instead of 5th from 40 to 55 mph. Just a thought.

TBarrett... . the difference in heigth in a 215 and a 235 is 1. 3 inches... . they width and footprint is slighly more than the 215 also... . the revolutions per mile are on about 15 or 18 less on the 235... i cant see that it would make more than 3 MPH on the speedomemter... i find it difficult to comprehend that it would slow or lug down my auto transmission... . over the years going to a larger tire mad the RPM go down slightly for the same MPH... . but i can alsways learn something new. . thanks.....

More on tires

I went from the 265/75/r16 to 285/75/r16 on my 01 and did feel a difference. Slower off the line, felt like it was a heavier truck. Also lost 400 to 500 rpm's and seems to be about 1. 5 mph off now. Oh I have a 3/4 q-cab shortbox. On the board specs for different tires on how they change has always been true for all the trucks I have had. Even got to the point of seeing how it made the computer act weird for timing and fuel delivery type things. Not to forget the ABS not comeing on as good.
