I just bought a '96 auto truck, 109k miles, bone stock. I hear about AFC, cam plates, etc, but really don't know anything about tuning 12v engines. Would someone please point me to some good threads that I can read for general info on how to bomb a 12v. Right now I am looking for mild upgrades, but may (i mean will, definitely) want more later.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

first things first look up kdp (killer dowl pin) and fix it then continue to search cam plate witch is the easy part that should help

The AFC housing is right behind the air horn where it goes into the intake on the top of the pump. The cam plate is underneath the AFC housing. You can slide the plate forward for some free HP, grind it to match other plate profiles, or just grind it flat. Block the wastegate, open up the intake and the exhaust, and add some gauges.

first go with a intake K&N filter or if you plan on going more than 250 HP get a AFE system. then do the exhaust, small would be a 3" free flow mufller and get rid of the CAT($100). or go with the full turbo back 4"($600-$800).

If you plan on going more than 250HP the stock TC will not hold up. So a new TC is needed. (trust me you will go more sooner or latter when you get the bug). Mabe some 215 injectors. slide the plate or just buy a #12 or #10 TST plate. And the must have befor any fule up grades are the gauges. The pyro is the most important to have.

Good luck keep us up to date on what you do. and beware the BOMB bug :-laf

Great initial info! Keep it coming. I know about KDP, so it seems like cam plate, AFC adjustments, injectors (275's or 370's?), exhaust, intake, gauges, etc.

Any more technical background info will also be appreciated.

Oh, and I have a confession. Truck belongs to my sister, not me, so I will have to tiptoe around the bombing, letting her know it's all about "improved driveability" :)

Tim

And you might want to bump the timing up to 15. 5 also. Being its' your sisters, you might consider the GRS springs for the pump. But, this might make her a LEAD foot. But as stated already, get gages.

I would Scrap the K&N Idea... They are JUNK! Had one, and it collapsed in on itself. AFE is the Speed I roll, hands down!

You would be wasting money just to buy a free flow muffler. . I got my 4" exhaust from PDR for $400. . Have had no problems with it whatsoever!

If you plan on doing anything, more than just a plate, you will want to start looking at transmissions, not just torque converters. .

Do a search on here, and there is a chart that TST makes so you can get the right plate for your preferred application.

Make sure you get gauges first and foremost!!!! That way, you can get a baseline, and see how much improvement you have made!!! Glad you bought a 6BT!!! You will enjoy it quite a bit!!!
