Hey guys, in a few weeks I'll be the owner of a 2001 Quad cab, long bed 6 speed 4x4. Truck has 36,400 miles on it. I'm new to the 24 valve group, (been a 12 valve 2nd gen for the last 12 years). Always heard the hallway chatter about what to expect/watch out for on the 24 valves, just as the 12 valves had the KDPs, headlight switch over heating issues, 5th gear etc... What should I be prepared for? Or do to prevent the known issues of these year trucks? Just want to be ahead of any impending normal issues. Thanks for any help!

how the heck did you find a ,01 with only 36k ? was itunder 20 feet of water? regardless, you are blessed, best of luck, and ENJOY!!!

Haha! My uncle who just made 85 years old bought it brand new in 2001, kept it on the Big Island for 3 years then moved to Molokai, which is like the second smallest inhabited island in our state, the island's only like 260 square miles. So he barely put any miles on the truck the last 8 or 9 years. It also has a Northern Tool bed dump kit installed. Thanks! I do feel blessed!

Kalaehina, the place where I work, Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) has done work on Molokai. I just thought it was crazy to see somebody on here from there. I never got to go, I was up in Minnesota when that was going on, but a lot of guys I work with have gone. Evidently the leper colony will be a national park from what I understand someday. Saw a bunch of pictures of the little deer they killed (axis?), sounds awesome. Anyways, thought it was cool to see somebody from there, and congrats on the nice truck

Yep, put a FASS or AIRDOG under that truck while you are re plumbing the fuel system with a big line kit, put a fuel pressure and an EGT gauge in the cab somewhere, a set of RV 275 or similar injectors will wake the engine up, throw a j-spring on the turbo and a Smarty and you have one awesome truck.

Thanks! That's the kind of info I'm looking for PVanderlugt. VolsFan, I actually live on Oahu, but my family is from Molokai, and a lot of them still live there. I have never been to the colony (Kalaupapa) but have an uncle that goes there once a year to do genealogy research. You have to be invited to go there, but man oh man, talk about Hawaii back in the day! I'm not sure if they have electricity there??
