Howdy from the state of Texas. I am a proud 2nd Gen owner but am looking to trade into the 3rd gen. I need more room for the kiddos. But I am concerned about the transmission in the 3rd gen. Does the Auto hold up when towing above 15K. I do not do a lot but when i do it is a lot. Thanks for any pointers given.

For towing, I like a 6 speed standard. For delivering flowers to a funeral home, an auto works fine.

HUMBUG!

I ran two thrid gens commercially with the 48re transmission. The trailers empty were 8-9k and well over 15k loaded. They hauled day in and day out for three years with no problems. I hauled 16-17k cross country and through the mountains several times with my '06 mega automatic. I ran it hard too, never a problem.

I have a six speed now, and like it much better but I live in the country and do not have to deal with traffic daily. There is nothing wrong with the auto for towing. Now if you bomb the truck and try to tow with an auto, that is a different story, my auto trucks were all stock.

bombin

I have not done that much to mine now so how far can I go with an Auto before too much? You know new exhaust, intake and maybe the adrenaline:D:confused:

You can add 75-100hp to the stock auto and you should be ok, if your cautious. The 48re is better than the 47re in all respects. It's is essentially the same transmission only beefed up a little.
