I have searched, read faq's, etc. This is my first diesel. I read everything about break in I could find and am following what I found on TDR. Anyway, the basic things like draining the water out of the fuel filter cannister, etc. Is there a link or resource for just learning about how to treat a diesel in general?

Thanks guys.

With the Low Sulfer diesel, Id recomend running some type of additive for extra lubricity. I use Power Service, either in the white or gray bottle. Others use Howes or Stanadyne. They all do the same basic thing. Some people feel they arent really needed, but can the added lubricity really hurt? No. With ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel) I dont want to be the one to find out that its not what diesel used to be.

I also changed my engine oil and filter at 1,500 miles just to get rid of anything the factory may have left behind just to be safe. Then I use 4-5k miles as an oil change interval. Book says 15k, but I just cant let myself go that long... I change my fuel filter every 5-7k miles or every other oil change with the newer 7 micron filter not the 10 micron. Thats pretty much what you need to know for now.

Of course this is what *I* do. Everyone has their own ways of doing things and have their own trusted brands of oils and filters. So that part is up to you. Dont be afraid to ask questions, this is a great place to learn how to take good care of your CTD. Enjoy! :-laf

Diesels are the way to go if you drive alot, they aren't a short distance engine. Let them warmup till the needle is lifting off the bottom. Let them sit for 5 min's or so before you shut if off. Keep a book on everything that you put in it and have done to it invoice #'s etc. O N L Y buy clean fuel from stations that move a fair amount of fuel. Dry fuel doesn't need lots of fuel filters> cheaper. Change all non filtered oils within 1000 miles. You have a driveway wipe out the rear diff and see what might be in there. Change engine oil at this time and remove some ( it may take 1 or 2 times to remove all the 6 to 10 micron size is the worst ) of the metal that is in the engine from machining. There is a good article on air filters under ??? was it something on duromax air filters. Read it and form your own opinion on the different air filters. Some of the oiled ones aren't very good. Switch to synthetic oils when it is broken in. They are cheaper and better. Do some digging of info on them and form your own opinion. I have about 1 1/4" of info on them from 20 years ago when I switched. Most places have product info books on the oils that they sell and readup on what you need to.
