Hi there, last night i got a check engine light on my way home from work, i was already planning an oil change so i went ahead with that and the light has yet to come back on. This is actually my dads truck, I drive a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee, on the Jeep you can cycle the ignition and get diagnostic codes, is there a way to do this on the Dodge. It is a '99 24-Valve. Thanks for the help.

Seed Guy... you can do the same thing on the Ram... cycle the ignition three times and it will tell ya the codes in the odometer window. If ya hold down the tripmeter button and cycle it, it will run your gauges thru a test. Kinda looks cool!

Thanks to MikeR for teaching me this!

Seed Guy... one other thing... you say you went home and changed oil... was the oil pressure gauge reading zero? That is the only problem I have had with my ram, and it was the sending unit. Warranty replaced it. If you are out of warranty, get a new one from cummins for about 139 dollars... dodge will want about double that.

This sending unit has been trouble on lots of our Rams...

Seed Guy, You still need to go have the codes read and cleared. Whatever caused the fault is stored in the computer. The fault has to be cleared with the scan tool.

The codes are in a service manual. If you get a code to come up (some do some don't) then just post it here and someone will look it up.

I have a 1999 also. I can't get the codes to register. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not, but I don't thing the code trick works on the 99's

wouldnt register on my '99 either... Then I found a friend with a scan-tool :) No more codes! (My old PE and MAP sensor didnt get along... )
