Been lurking for a while, amazed at the knowlege in the forums.
Just did my first fuel filter last night. I was prepared for a long haul, if the dealer wanted $99 for this service it had to be tough.
Hardest part was finding the 1 1/8 6 point socket. Think I'll spend Saturdays in front of the dealership advertising $75 filter changes
. One thing I did after the change, all buttoned up, hit the starter a touch, then while pump still doing it's thing I hopped out and opened up the drain valve for a split second. Started right up with no problems. Was that luck??
Have been getting excellent mileage, 18+/- around town and a memorable 20. 7 mpg on a high speed round trip from Seattle to San Francisco ( avg 76 mph including pit stops). however, a bit more power is enticing. I plan on installing a pyrometer and pressure guages, then maybe some electronic help for the ECM.
Would love some advice on where to buy at friendly prices, and ups and downs of different brands. Can't allow my brother-in-law's powerstroke to get ahead of Moby truck.
