Well guys, After driving diesel VW's around for the last 8 years, I finally got a truck again. I had to sell my ’07 Mega Cab when I changed jobs back in 2010 as we couldn’t afford the payment after the hefty pay cut. We finally decided we were ready for another truck last year. After almost a year of searching, I found what I was after.

I was looking for a Limited with the Aisin and single rear wheel in bright white and happened to find the exact truck I was looking for with one of the mods I would have done in the suspension and tires/wheels. It has every available option except dual rear wheels.

I did notice that the rear diff cover is a stamped cover and not the cast aluminum that is supposed to come with the Aisin. I for sure have the Aisin as the dipstick is on the driver’s side, the build sheet says Aisin and it’s stamped on the trans. Is there a chance that it was swapped out at some point or was this a mistake at the factory? Is there any other difference in axles between those with the stamped cover vs. the cast aluminum cover?

I thought all the stock AAM differential covers were stamped steel..... Not Cast aluminum.

One dealer said they wouldn't work on my rear axle because of the cast aluminum after market cover I had installed on mine.

Gave me some real grief about the mods I did.

I have the 17 with Aisin and it had the stamped sheet metal cover. I replaced it with a finned cover, but did not come with one from the factory.

Only the max tow duallys get the 11.8 rear diff with the finned aluminum cover. Yours, like mine, being a srw has the 11.5 rear with the steel cover. You can replace the cover with the finned aluminum piece if it makes you feel better. I haven’t.

Stamped on SRW, DRW max tow get the aluminum cover and a slightly larger ring gear. SnoKing

On edit, JH wins by a nose!;);)

Sweet rig. Can you please post your wheel size/width and tire size? Looks like 35x12.50's on 20" wheels? How wide are the wheels?

Thanks!

Sure. They are Fuel Boost wheels. 20x9 and there are 2 versions. I believe mine are the shallow ones. Tires are 35x12.5R20 Toyo A/TII’s. I filled out my signature with all this info, but it’s not displaying under my posts.

I hadn't seen one of the OEM aluminum rear differential covers. So I did a search out of curiosity and found this. Appears to have deeper and more fins than my after market one, but not the increased capacity of lube

Mine has 4.10's and AISIN, does the 3.73 and 3.42's both have stamped covers on the Dually. Does AISIN have anything to do with this?

If towing heavy I would get this cover!

That's a nice large image of about 1/4 of your diff cover. Can you shoot another picture and attach a smaller image so I can click to my hearts content on the image?

I don't know the answers to those questions specifically (though I thought I heard it was only with 4.10's), but I'm sure it is based on GCW...which would coincidentally include the Aisin.

The 3.42 DRW pickups w/AISIN and the 3.73 DRW pickups w/AISIN both have the aluminum cover.

All Max tow did was force 4:10's when I ordered my truck. It did add camers and 5th wheel hitch but u had already picked them separate. I see it also includes air suspension and I do not want that option. I wanted 3:73 so I did not order max toe. Mine came with finned cover. I thought it was in a dually rears
