RAMblings revisited

So I got this new (to me) 160,000 mile old 1990 volvo 740 turbo inntercooled.

Nice condition. Just starting to rust here and there. in small spots.

few things, brakes I had to do. thermostat was installed wrong and broke. previous owner rebuilt the trans and did the timing belt. Some lights are funky. Heated seat doesn't work on the drivers side. New a head liner needed. Needs an alignment. comes with set of un-used snow tires on crappy rims. half the summer tires are good, the other half are bald. That's about it!!! $1000. So we got it.

anywho. I hear these motors are really good. I got the "red block". 2. 3 liter with the smaller mitsu turbo (umm, you can't tell there's lag at all... )

However. I'm DISGUSTED with the millage. and how well it drives and the fact it doesn't leak and starts on the first try, I figured it was going to be a good buy vs. the previous car my GF had.

She's been BABYING it and got over all 20mpg. She keeps the boost low and everything.

So I'm like. 4 cylinder, 3300# car. can't get 20mpg, even if it is a turbo.

According to a few websites. 20 is highway! she's getting that mixed! So she's driving very well to get an extra 3mpg or so out of it on the highway when she is driving at speed.

WOW, her babying it and taking it easy millage is as good as my truck for typical driving!

That's just wrong.

it should get at least 25 or better on the road, i work on em for a living and have owned a few, my last 7 series turbo wasn't out of the question to get 32 on a long trip (somewhat a oddity), look it over for boost leaks, clogged cat, clogged air filter, clogged fuel filter, dead 02 sensor, dead air flow meter, dead intank lift pump, common stuff that can crap out but kills the car when it fails are the main/fuel pump relay (white 6 pin on the left side of the relay box) rf relay black 4 pin, it changes position from year to year sometimes on the left side sometimes on the right under the hood in front of the strut towers, some cars have a 2nd identical relay that runs the electric fan, and the reference mark sensor on top of the bell housing fails too, on the 91 models with the 3 dials ac controls the relay inside of the control unit needs to be resoldered when the compressor won't engauge when theres sufficiencient freon, the two relays i listed above can usually be resoldered too, when the ac control unit dies check the draw of the compressor clutch, over about 4 amps and it's dieing

let me know if you need any parts, if i don't have it used i can usually get a good deal on a new one next day
