Hello everyone. I'm new to this site and a new diesel owner.

I have a Red 01 2500 Quad cab 4 X 4 sport , auto

I purchased it new last Nov. it now has 14,000 miles on it. So far I have put on a Dynomax race (straight thru) muffler and a Western Diesel air filter. It also has 295 Bf goodrich allterrains.

I love this truck , I will never go back to a gasser !

This is my daily driver and I also tow snowmobiles in the winter and a 7500lb boat in the summer.

Since I'm new to the diesel thing is there anything I should know or some secret thing I can do to add more power.

I use the "b" schedule for maintence. Since I'm coming up on an oil change I'm wondering if I can use Amzoil ? I usually use the factory oil filter.

I usually get between 15-16 mpg on the computer for city driving and 17-18 on the highway.

Any info would be helpful,

Thanks

Chuck

Chuck, I will jump in and welcome you on board. Yes you can use Amsoil but be aware, that is a loaded question on the board. For filters, a good source is Geno's via the links. The stealer is likely robbing you if that is your souce. Your mileage sounds good to me for a 24V. They tend to be a bit less than the 12V. Spend some time reading the threads and archieves. The 24V forum is the place for you to start. How much money you wish to spend is the limit. One thing you can count on here. We will show you how to make the power and how to spend the money to do it. Be aware that "BOMBING" is a disease and once started there is no cure.

Welcome to the site, and glad to see ya' get a Cummins, I hope you enjoy it!

You can use which ever oil you choose, if you do a search on "fluids" you'll find ample information to make a decsion. The common oil/fuel filter choice is "Fleetguard".

As far as "some secret thing to make more power", how much $$$ do ya' wanna spend. ;) The skies the limit, more money, more power.

Gauges are a primary concern, particularly fuel pressure and EGT's, and should be installed BEFORE BOMBing begins.

Then you may want to add a fueling box, or injectors, or twin turbos,:p :D

Good Luck, Rob

EDIT,... ... ... ...

. Be aware that "BOMBING" is a disease and once started there is no cure.

BTW, My name is Rob and I'm a BOMBing addict... ... :p ;)

Welcome aboard!!!

Like they said, they sky is the limit.

the First mod is a fuel pressure gauge. after that it gets a little hazy.

Std gages are Fuel Pressure, Boost, and Pyrometer(for Exhaust Gas Temperatures).

Power for a 24v Auto. transmission, Fueling box, injectors, turbo and exhaust. in roughly that order... afew of those can be swapped up.

A minor fueling box and injectors are about the limit with a HY35 turbo (yours) and any more will cause the need for some transmission work.

Read and learn. Search then Ask.

FWIW,

Welcome aboard Chuck... . ya might want to break out a pen and paper and calculate milage that way, computer is most likely off.

Chuck, welcome to the madness that is the TDR. :-laf

All good advise given especially watching out for the dreaded "BOMBitis".

Speed =$$$$$$ how fast do you wanna go?:D

Minor "boxes" like the PE EZ will give your Cummins a kick in the pants and make it run like it should have from the factory.

The more you "modify" the more you will learn the old saying on the TDR: "I am my own warranty station";)

Hang around, absorb all the great info.

This IS the best Diesel site anywhere.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I kind of had a feeling the mileage was off but it still is WAY better than my 96 360 1500.

I will definitly do allot of reading and try and learn as much about this truck as I can.

I went out on a limb to buy it with the notion of keeping it at least 7 years, with the mileage I put on that should be around 200,000. Does that sound plausable ?

By then it should just be getting broken-in . ;)

just talked to a cummins guy. he just tuned a 12V up with 800,000 on the engine and turbo. just regular maintenance and lots of oil changes. every 3-5k. this truck was a fleet vehicle (coachmen camper company) and was auctioned.

use a signature. it's easier when posting questions about your rig. good luck. this bunch of guys are good. scott.

welcomw to tdr. requesting info on MORE POWER is the first step on making your bank account hit rock bottom!:D a good idea is to fill out your sig and check mark the show signature box when you post atleast the first time on a topic, this will let everybody know what truck you have and what mods you might have already done. a location will help in letting other members know the area in which you call home. welcome aboard and enjoy!Oo.

Welcome. You found the right place. Anything, everything you name it ask is here. Just check this as much as you can.

This is definitly an informative site.

I can see now that I should just leave the truck alone ! Otherwise I will be out of control:D

I just went thru this on a boat, started with a stock engine (415hp) and now have 675hp ! It is never enough !

Yeah, I think you'll fit right in here. :)

Please return you tray to it's upright position in preparation for take off. :)

Whatever you do, don't try to stop the BOMB bug. I've tried, it don't work. Oo. Oo.
