I am a new TDR member and I've just bought a '95 2500 2WD with 52k original miles, i haven't even picked it up from the dealer yet and i am looking to trash the exhaust and maybe install an EZ. It's an auto, sad:( and i don't want to kill my transmission, i would just like a killer sound and some extra HP. I like the jennety racing 4"system but 500 clams is a bunch i just saw a refrence to Rip Rooks exhaust and was wondering about that as well. . ANY help would be apreciated. Thanks

welcome aboard Kitchner,

First off, the truck you are talking about has the P-7100 Injection Pump, which is a mechanical pump, so the EZ would not work on it. You can install a "torque" plate and get some more HP. This is accomplished by removing the "AFC"(Air Fueling Control) housing cover on the rear of the injector pump. This will allow you to access the Torque plate. The plate will need to come out and then you would install a different plate with a different cam grind. Your truck would use a number 6 plate. These plates are available from most of the engine vendors, such as TST, Piers Diesel and others. Not expensive, but will give much more HP. There are other things you can also do with your engine configuration as well, but this will get you started.

Happy truck'n,

Wayne,

This is my first diesel (in a truck) and i am not very familiar with the cummins engine yet, how much work am i looking at to add the #6? Is this somthing a rookie can do or am i looking at finding a good shop to help? Thanks for your help.

TST Kit

kitschner

I have a truck simular to yours a 95 2wd auto. I installed the TST kit (cam plate) and am very happy with the results. TST advertises in the Turbodielsel Register and can be reached with their 1-800 number or on line. If you go with them they will send you a videow tape showing how to install the cam plate. If you watch this and decide to do it you self fine. If you think it is beyond your capabilitys then have a friend or shop do it. It is very straight forward and fairly simple to do. I have done two of them so far, both on 95 2wd autos and they have both turned out great. good luck with your truck it is easy and realativly cheap to get very good results powerwise from it. I have also upgraded my transmission with DTT stuff and am very happy with that also. See my signature for everything I have done. :D

Kitchner,

As David said, it is very straight forward.

If you do get a kit from TST, you can get the video with it. If you were are close by I could do it for you as I have installed many of htese plates. The biggest worry is not to drop anything, such as a screw into the AFC housing! If you are carefull, this will not happen.

The upgrade kit costs less than $300. 00 and will get you the tporque plate, a turbo boost control, installation hardware, and printed as well as video instructions... ... ..... and more HP and torque!

Welcome to another '95 owner!

The very FIRST thing you want to get is an EGT gauge!! I have the combo EGT/boost guage from Geno's Garage. It's been working fine for several years. Another thing you might be interested in is the Cup Smoothy from Geno's. Much better than the stock cup spiller and then you can use the hole when it was to put stuff like switches. You can get pretty good power without spending a lot on these 12 valve engines. Feel free to pm or e-mail me anytime.

Oh yeah, if the KDP hasn't been blocked you want to do that.

JKitchner,

God help you! You found your way into the greatest place to find ways to spend money known to man. Sounds like you already have simmering case of BOMBitis.

NOw the good news. There is so much excellant information and advise on this site you won't believe it. I haven't been here long but it is amazing. You are fairly close in Va. to me in Md. My Rip's exhaust is on its' way as we speak. I'll let you know when it's on if you wan't to get together to hear it.

The #6 is 230 hp/605 ft lb in your 160 hp engine. #5 gives 255 hp. you really don't need 4" exhaust at those power levels. If you get seriously addicted (I wouldn't know anything about that  ) you can go to bigger injectors and turbo or tubine housing for your stock turbo. 'Way back in Issue 23 of TDR, I wrote up some info on these changes. let me know if you need any hep with your incipient addiction :D
