Just like to say howdy. I picked up a '91 250-4X4 last month with 185K on it. My boy E-mailed me the TDR address and said "Dad check it out, I think you'll like it" Yup he was right! All kinds of interesting stuff on fixin' up the truck. I'm in the prosses of fixin' the little stuff, instrument lights, headliner, etc. Guys I am going to need some advice on the transmission. I think it's a 727. 3-speed no O/D . Real mushy. Maybe T/C? Had dealer check it out. Changed fluid/filter said bands didn't need adj. I think it might just be showin' it's age. Any advice is welcome. Thank's:cool:

Let me be the first to welcome you to the 'ole dogs corner',

glad to have you. You're gonna luv the 1st Gen's

Easy to work on, lots of room and not alot of 'pacemakers' to go foobar on ya.

I notice in your signature you show 'swiss cheese air box'.

If thats the case you might want to look closer at the pump.

Its possible that the previous owner simply changed over to the K&N without other tweaks, but I'd still want to look close.

See if the 'tamper caps' are still on the pump. There should be 3 of them I believe.

One right on top, about 5/8" round and inset into the AFC housing

One just down from that closer to the fender, partly covering a long screw.

One tucked in behind the pump, on the engine side, above were the injector lines go in/come out.

Are they there? Do they look untouched?

Most dealers will put them back on if they've worked or had the pump worked on. (Most   )

The mileage on your trans is getting up there. If its been serviced regularly it should last a while longer unless it's been used to tow heavy or hard.

Some basics (from my point of view)

Timing check

Valve check/set

Oil/filter

Diff. case oils

Transf. case oil

From there, it's 'Bomb On Bud' Oo. Oo.

Regards, Bob

Welcome aboard!

My first Dodge/Cummins was a 91 1/2 model with automatic trans. If I remember correctly, the early 91' model with automatic trans. had a 3. 07:1 gear ratio. I believe the mid year 91'(with intercooler and over-drive), came with the 3. 55:1 gears. You may want to check this out, I could be wrong.
