Help!!!

No, it's not really that bad. This is my first second gen question. I have been running a first gen for years.

I have a hard starting problem after the truck sits for several days. I just got the truck and it does fine if you run it every day. Batteries and starter are in good condition so cranking speed is not an issue. I have come up with several ideas from searching this forum, but I was wondering where is the best place to start.

I guess I will start with the fuel lines since they look stock. Where is the best place to get them?

Also, where do you check the fuel pressure?

Another question has to do with the transmission. I just rebuilt it because the bearing in the OD unit failed. I didn't have to do much to the transmission, but I went ahead an replaced all the bushings and thrust bearings. Now I seem to have an intermittent problem with it starting off in second gear. It may have done this before, but I only drove it a little before I yanked the transmission out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cyborg,

He has a 12 valve. The lift pump is reliable. No need to check if for anything since the truck runs fine. His symptoms indicate an air leak somewhere. Replacing the fuel hoses will probably fix it.

Ordered new fuel lines. Don't know if the lift pump is bad or not. I was cleaning under the truck getting ready to put new fuel lines on it and just moving the lines around made them start leaking bad. They were very brittle. I'm guessing that is most of the problem. The fuel heater has already been removed. I doubt that will cause any problems here since the weather rarely gets very cold.

Before I started messing with the lines, I tightened the cable a little that goes to the transmission and the second gear start problem seems to be gone. I will see if that fixes it when I get the new lines on it.

If the fuel line doesn't fix the problem then check the shutdown lever solenoid. With the key on lift up on the arm where the rubber boot is toward the back of the pump and make sure it snaps into place. If you can't lift up on it then it's working right.

Wanted to say thanks for the help. Got the lines from Larry Buck. Old lines were pretty bad. Truck starts and idles perfectly now.

Once I get a decent converter in it, I guess I'll start on some mods.
