Well after much debate and penny saving I commited to Transfer Flow and purchased a 30 gal tool box tank combo.

I will be installing this myself and was wondering if anyone out there have put one of these in themselves? If so are there any tips / tricks that you learned during your install that you would not mind passing along.

Thanks in advance.

I was just wondering what kind of tools this would require and how long it will take. I'm considering getting one of these myself.

Wdixon. I just e-mailed you my experiences with the transfer flow. If anyone else wants it please e-mail me. I have it in a MS Word document. It's about 3 pages. I can reformat to whatever you want.

Well it took awhile to get my brother in law to stand still long enough, but I (we) finally got the tank installed. I thought that I would share my experiences with y’all. The box is not the lightest thing around that is why I recruited my brother in-law to help with the lifting.

First the Toolbox/Tank combo arrived at my office about a week after Transfer Flow estimated. The unit was apparently on back order. To Transfer Flows credit, they kept leaving voicemails on my phone keeping me informed of the progress.

It arrived EXTREMELY well packaged in two boxes on a pallet. No dents or damage, and with everything that you will need to install, (cable ties, clamps, connectors, ect…), minus tools of course.

I guess it stayed in my garage for about 3 weeks before I got around to installing it, but on a positive note, it gave me ample opportunity to read the instructions numerous times. If there is a scale for instructions, I would give them an 8. They were very concise, and to the point. They even include a drawing for wiring and install locations. The written directions are specific to your make of vehicle, and the drawing is a generic for all 3 makers.

The actual installation was very simple and straightforward. It required a general assortment of the most common tools, drill, wire strippers, socket wrench, screwdrivers, ect… The only tool that I did not have in my toolbox was a hole saw. I picked up a set from the local hardware store really cheap. I also found that an air ratchet came in very, very handy, not required, but hey, I had a new toy, and it worked beautifully in the tight spots. I am by no means a knowledgeable mechanic but consider my skills to be adequate in a shade tree sort of way, and this was probably one of the easiest installs that I have ever undertaken.

We had the unit installed and filled up with fuel in about 6 hours. We were in no hurry and took our time, I say that we could have had it done in 3-4 hours. The thing that took to longest to do was to trace the wires coming off the OEM tank to locate the fuel gauge sending wire, (a blue wire with a white stripe). This took about 2 cold beverages & a lot of swear words. But I found it eventually.

I am very pleased with this unit as it serves my purposes well. It took me a while to justify the amount of money that this thing costs, but I look at as a 1 time investment, and plan to take it out of this truck and put it any subsequent trucks that I might own. Not that anyone has asked, but yes I would recommend this unit to anyone that is curious.

Sorry for the long post, but I was bored.

I took some pictures during install, and will share them if you want, just e-mail me.

Regards,

WD
