Because of the problems some users had with the new pull down menus and the lack of a good response from the vendor I have switched the software I use to generate those menus. This new software is significantly more compact than the old stuff and runs faster as well (at least on everything I've tested it on). I had Mac users and a Linux Konqueror user (which were the browsers that had trouble with the old menus) try these menus out before I switch it and it worked fine for them. We've also tested it on IE, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, and Firefox. Hopefully there won't be any problems. It does load strange the very first time it loads up but is formatted correctly always after that (at least it has in testing). Let me know if you have any problems with it.

One thing you may notice is that some anti-popup software will kill the menus. I run Zero popup and it does. In zero popup all I had to do was either turn it off or add www.turbodieselregister.com to the "white list". If you right click on the zero popup icon and click on white list that's where you can add it.

BTW, if the menu isn't lining up properly (it should line up with the graphics lines to the left and right of the menu) please go to this page https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ezmenu/browser.htm and report back what browser it says you are running, how far you think it is off (a screenshot would work even better), and what page you were on when you saw it off. I can adjust it vertically for each browser, I just have to know which ones need it adjusted. Thus far all the browsers I've tested line up fine (had to adjust a couple).

WOOHOOO that's MUCH faster!! The menus look and operate fine here under Firefox, which reports as Netscape 5 on your link above. Nice job! The buttons are about 50% above the centerline, though, but I could really care less... they're readable.

Steve,

The drop downs are so much better.

The readability is super for these tired eyes!

Thanks for your continuous high level of care with this site.

Keep on truckin'.

Tim

Oo.

Menus work great on my desktop machine, however I have a laptop with touchpad at home and it's darn near impossible to use them.

My workaround is to click on the discussion forums, then I get the page I can pick the forum from there...

Not a real big deal, just an fyi...

How are they darn near impossible to use on your touchpad? I do 100% of my work on a laptop with a touch pad and I'm not having any problems using them.

I won't be able to fix the lineup problem with firefox because Netscape 7 also reports back as Netscape Navigator 5. It lines up correctly in Netscape 7 and we have more people using Netscape than firefox - sorry. There's another problem with the more obscure browsers. They hide themselves as a different browser although they don't display exactly the same. If firefox reported itself as firefox then I could fix the lineup :{ . Have I mentioned all the different browsers are driving me nuts? :-laf

My touchpad may be set too sensitive or something, but when I move to the right to try and get to the main forum menu, if my pointer moves a fraction of an inch or so up or down and comes off the line I'm on and the right hand menu goes away.

Heheh... that's ok, the functionality is there and I didn't even notice the alignment was off a little until I read your post and actually looked for it. I'm much happier with the new menus, still truckin right along a lot faster than before. :)

Could you post a pic of what it should look like? Linux is sort-of consistent, but it does strange things now and again. Konqueror (reported at Konqueror 5, which doesn't exist) generally displays the menus a little high, Mozilla (reported as Navigator 5) does as well, but Netscape 7. 1 (reported as Navigator 5) puts them low.

I agree about browsers. No one seems to implement the standards correctly, or the same way. It's the same with X. 25 :)

The free pop up blocker from Google works well and does not effect the menus in IE 6. They look much better visibility wise for me too. Keep up the good work.

Hmm I keep getting this

How often have you gotten that and when you've gotten it more than once were you using the back button to get to that page? It loaded like that for me the 1st time but after that it's rendered fine every time.

Have the menus changed since a couple days ago??? 'cause now I have no problem with my laptop touchpad.....

I witnessed the same thing as toolman noticed earlier in the day today, a refresh cleared it up. . It was on my work computer though, haven't seen it here at home.

i keep getting that too... seem to be only the main page i think
