Wow, what a hit to the wallet. But one of our 5'ver tires threw a tread last weekend about 20 miles north of Atlanta. I had four General 235/85R16's on it and they were properly inflated, so I'm not sure exactly what caused the separation. After checking the specs of those tires, I did find out that they are load rated at 3040 pounds per tire, which is the bare minimum on my fifth wheel. I went with the Michelin's because they are rated at 6085 pounds per tire, which gives me a good safety margin.
The 5'ver never swayed, jerked or even dropped when the tire went. I thought I ran over something. It took out part of my sewer and sink pipe, but I'll have that repaired later this week. It also took out the side skirt on the living room slide. But it was a clean, relatively damage free separation. The tire marks on the slide will come out, but remind me of a cup car after a race at Martinsville. I'll post a picture tonight.
