Well dads transmission started acting up (very hard shifts, hunting gears ect. ) so we are shipping it to ATS for a rebuild & new TC.

bout time 260,000 miles on this one

We have been hearing about twisting the center out of the flex plate & were wanting to know if there are any stronger (thicker or better material) avaliable?

Thanks,

Zac

I haven't heard of that being an issue with the 1st gen trannies.

The only one I know of who has done this is nascar mark, and he was jamming 300 + HP thru it with a DTT system behind it. Believe me, he beat that sucker hard... hence the nickname "wildman"... :)

He ripped the middle right out of the flexplate.

Since our trucks use fluid coupling only (no lockup) ripping the flexplate is less of an issue than in the 2nd Gen trucks which run higher HP and use lockup alot.

Your dad shouldn't have any flexplate issues zac.

Sir Moderator,

You aren't keeping very good track of your first gens:D :D :D

Powerwagon lost a flex plate sometime last summer and the center ripped out of mine in September, luckily I was in Port Coquitlam, B. C. had it towed to DTT for the fix.

They installed a flex plate from a 2nd gen truck, they aren't much heavier if I remember right Bill said they where some thing like 7 or 11 thousanths of an inch thicker. (don't quote me on the measurement but they are just a hair thicker)

Happy Rammin,

Caleb

I'm on my third flex plate, i had DTT install a new one from a 24valve, the newer models are supose to hold up, i think any of them that you get from the dealer now are the upgraded models

Ripped the center right outta one at 1am on i4o outta Knoxville Tenn. Left me and three horses stranded!!!:{ It was a MESS,Took two wreckers one for truck and one for gooseneck trailer. Took me and horses to the University, truck to dealer. They said parts were updated. I sure hope so. Thats when i had TCI converter dropped shipped. Didn't know about TDR then!Wife borrowed a neighbors 1998 24valve dually, had to pick me and horses up. Following week had to drive back to pick truck up. No parts in stock.

Dad's truck

92 2500 ext. cab 4x4, Westach HD Combo gage, Banks Tach, AM Boost,

PDR HX35-12cm, ATS manifold, Banks 3. 5" exhaust, Banks Techna cooler, POD's, Adjusted pump, Mag-Hytec DD trans - rear diff - front diff cover, custom stereo & over 320K miles

So a 24 valve flex plate will go in a 1st gen. without any modifications??
