Got a deep aluminum transmission pan from Dieselperformanceparts.com and man, it's nice. Quite a bit less $$ than the MagHytec pans. It's 2 qts more than stock, has a drain plug, and a boss to drill and tap for trans temp sender. It was super easy to install, for those that are a little gunshy. I'd recommend picking up a Fleetguard transmission filter for it when you do change it out. The filter includes a nice rubber gasket and you'll need it since the original gasket will have indentations from the factory pan and you want a smooth gasket for the milled aluminum gasket seating surface of the new pan. My observation of the pan is that it is very high quality. I've had it on a couple weeks and absolutely no leaks. The hottest the fluid has ever gotten is when I was backing a loaded trailer, 180 degrees.

There are several transmission oil pans on the market to choose from, it does not always have to be a MagHytec. I am glade you found an alternitive to the common place replacement. Thinking outside the TDR, and on your own is good, way to many on here simply follow suite and purchases the obvious. I would incourage more people to find alternatives to the common problem, there are many, many manufacturers that do not advertise in the TDR or their competiters, yet have products that fit the bill. I like to show support for our paid advertisers, but not to the point of having blinders on and not making shure I have the right product for the right job.

I have looked at the trans pans... Several are listed as 727 pans. Wasn't sure if that is true... Just haven't done the checking yet.

I have a B&M 4 qt pan for a 727 in the barn. I think I paid $150 for it from summit racing. A lot cheaper than the $250+ for the MagHytec. But it doesn't have the location for the trans temp. Only has the drain plug.

Also curious... jwerkheiser... Why didn't you list the price you got your pan for... Seems a lot of people say they got great prices but don't list them on this board???

my opinion is that a drain plus is of little to no good on a transmission since you still should drop the pan to change the filter.

True, you should drain when you change the filter. However, a drain plug makes it a heck of a lot cleaner since you can drain it completely before you drop the pan.

Either you've never tried lowering your pan while atempting to hit the drain pan while getting covered in ATF?, or your good, I mean real good! Does the 47 and 48re jse the standard 727 filter? If so I used a fine mesh type filter in my 95 CTD that I use to clean and reuse it. I know it would flow ALOT more fluid cause you can always tell when a 727 or the 46 I had was straining to pull fluid thru the felt type filter cause when you put them in reverse you could here the trans whine especially when the temperature outside was cold.

Can anyone confirm it is actually 2 quarts more than the 3rd gen pans? I've heard the 48RE's already come with a 'deep' pan, the same capacity as mag hytec's deep, not DD. JW - how much did you add when you dropped the pan and filter?

The TCI-128001 transmission pan retains stock fluid capacity, but you gain a drain plug and cooling fins on the bottom of the pan. I got mine over at Summit Racing, and was pleased with the quality and price of the pan.
