I recently picked my truck from James Northum in Midlothian Texas. He did a billet shaft DTT transmission for me and I am very impressed with it. It shifts real smoothly and no more neck snapping lockup as before, it just puts the power on the ground.

Im pulling a 24' toy hauler in the 10k range with it and it was effortless. I am lookin forward to trouble free driving with my new transmission!!:D:D

glad to hear you like it!

im looking into DTT as well. i just got my truck back on the road, and with the 10 plate all the way forward i dont think the transmission will hold up.

How do you find the toque converter delievers power over the stock one, and also compared to when it is locked (does the dtt lock??)??

I know my truck doesnt go anywhere unless its in lockup (ive got it rigged to go into lockup in 3rd gear and OD) Ide say the stock converter might deliver 30-50 percent of the power the engine makes. For example, if i run 3rd gear in lockup its about 2-3 times faster than running it unlocked. Maybe i need a standard, so i can get all the power to the wheels, but im hoping a built auto will fix the problem.

Yes the DTT locks up, and yes it will put the power to the ground without lockup. James is also my transmission builder since 02' and as you can see I make a little bit of power so I think it's proven.

Glad to see you go to James, Kevin!

Jim, you need to fix me up with a better turbo!! I'm getting hot, hot, hot pulling my toy hauler and its rather smoky!!!!

:) 115,000miles on my DTT trans. Some hard long hotday pulls and still works like the day Bill Kondolay installed it. Would do it again if I ever need to.

On our transmission break in run about 35K ago, we went to a camp ground recommended by a friend with a motor home. It was beautiful, but if I could have backed up a mile I would have left! The owner sent me in the exit up a steep incline and then I had to back in down the cliff.

He marveled at how I "idled" up the hill.

He had a Ford 4X4 gasser and he said his truck would never have pulled the fiver up in low range!

Then he pointed to a backhoe and said that was what he used to help trucks with heavy trailers in.

One problem I found yesterday. I am pretty sure Bill said to use 7196 ATF. I tried to find it yesterday and all I can find is +3 and +4 now. It is due for another service soon and I wonder if anyone knows of a supplier or suitable substitute.
