Oo. My truck has arrived at Dave Smith's in Idaho. I leave in a week and a half to pick it up. For those of you who have been through this before, any advice on what to look out for before I turn it south and head for San Diego? I'll be having their spray on Turboliner and a Reese 16K hitch added. When I get back I'll install a Fold A Cover Tonneau top to the short bed.

This delayed gratification stuff sux!

I didn't even drive mine before I signed the papers. I had sold my previous truck before I ordered the new one, then waited 6 weeks for it to come in. Then I flew from Tucson to Denver to pick it up. I was committed. I figured that whatever problems my truck had, I would take care of it under warranty. So far, the only warranty issue was to have the A/C serviced.

This is not advice, only what I did. I'm sure others will suggest a test drive a freeway speeds to listen for rear end noise, etc. Have a ball.

Don't forget the Inner Fender Well Liners! If they aren't on the truck build sheet, you should call the dealer, and have them order a set and get em installed. They are typically less than 100 bucks, and without them, every stone you drive over will make you cringe as it is deflected off the bottom of your box.

As far as break in, I listened to the guys on this site, and drove it as I would if the thing were 5000 miles old. (After all, if they can let the motor sit for 8 hours, and then start it, and hold the pedal to the rug for 3 minutes, to test freeze plugs, it must be pretty rock solid!)

Dave Smith has an installation dept that can install most any accessory... We've done business with them for some time and have purchased from them... I find them very nice to deal with... They try hard to make your purchase trouble free... and work hard to deliver a truck that's fully checked out... .

The only think I'd look at... is to be sure that all the fluids have been 100% checked before I drive it away..... nothing like finding that DC has left the transmission or rear end low... . at the first oil change... Ask to see the check list... or talk to the guys in the predelivery area..... I'm afraid to say that often they don't check the boxes on all trucks... .

I now own and 01 and 04 and will order an 05 in the next week or so.....
