I have an 03 and love it. My 10K Artic Fox 5th gives it a run for its money even with a Smarty set at tow mode. I was thinking of going with a 2015 but want to know the diff between the 2014 and 15 as you understand it. Is this a good time or is a new model year coming soon? I love air ride suspension but the 3500 dosent have it? and.....I really want the Asin (? sp) transmission with the higher output motor and is that only offered in the 3500 as well. That would mean trade perhaps a more versatile suspension for the motor/transmission

Only minor HP and torque increases for the 2015. No sheet metal or interior changes between 2014 & 2015

I'm going to order a 2015 and the only reason is so that I can order exactly what I want......that's all.

There should be good deals on the 2014s between now and November, when stock will be low and hence it could be harder to find what you want in stock at a dealership. The Aisin is a 6 speed. I tend to prefer the old-time, very reliable leaf sprung rear suspension for a "working" truck, i.e. towing a heavy trailer.

I too planned to order a 2015 but none of the dealers would give me the hard numbers on cost. Was talking to Vernon Auto Group for a Western Brown but there were none out there, they seemed to have the best prices. Looked a little farther out and Roberts Auto Group in Pryor, OK. had a LARIMIE LONGHORN, Prairie Pearl with all the right options so I went for the 2014 and have no regrets.
The 2014 with the Aisin transmission and high output are super combination. Really head and shoulders above the 2004.

Possibly the only SLIGHT reason I could consider offering a reason to wait, not including the added number increases in HP/TQ, would be if any special color were to be offered. Joe has one of the few Copper trucks I've seen, only offered in 2013. Lucky Buzzard... <G>

A 15 would be sitting in my driveway if they would get the rear air ride system figured out for a 3500 Dually! Until then I will keep my 11 HO.

I've said it in the past and still have the same opinion, too many moving parts for that suspension, they will need attention and often. Can you say rear steering system that has disappeared from the GM truck line up, too many moving parts that will wear.

Get a 2500 with air 4 link rear sus you can still get the aisen. I have a 14 with 6 spd rfe and it pulls great . My trl empty weighs 11500 k. That ex 50 lb of torque may equal about 3-5 mph up a hill. Put the the transmission$2500 or so back in your pocket. You will be amazed at how good it pulls. Goes up the same grade to my house 3 miles long 7-8 % in some places 10 mph faster and that is with 342 gears. My 06 had 430 gears. I have read about very few problems with the standard transmission.

You can't get an Aisin transmission in a 2500HD, unless I just misunderstood your post:confused:...2500 and 3500 SRW trucks only come with 3:42 gearing, though you can get the Aisin transmission in the 3500 SRW truck, which in a 15' will give one more TQ but same amount of HP as in 13-14 3500 series.

As far as I understand it the difference between 13/14 3500 SRW to the 15' is with the Aisin you get an additional 15ftlb of TQ...didn't see any added HP, 385HP...865TQ (compared to 850TQ for the 13'-14' equipped truck with Aisin)....the 68RFE still offers 800TQ as far as I can tell be it a 13'-14' or 15'.

The 68RFE, in my opinion is a VERY good transmission, I had it in two other 3500 Dually's and never had the first issue towing my 5er, loaded to 16,200#...all towing in the mountains.

If I were the OP, I'd base my final decision on what truck to purchase by what you're planning on doing with it long term..."IF" you think you might go to a heavier 5er later down the road, I'd opt for a 3500 SRW and be ahead of the game.. If you'll stay with what you have to tow and won't be going "bigger/heavier", I'd opt for the 2500...Just have to figure out your plans "down the road".

The reason that disappeared, IMO, is that it offered almost no benefit for its $4000+ cost.

I like the simplicity, reliability, durability of the leaf spring rear suspension. I do admit that the 3500 suspension is "firm" but it helps to have some stuff back there for weight, like my Transfer Flow tank and a camper shell.

Well I hope they are really working to get it right FMY, as I think the camper issue and the 2500 air was a learning experience for them. It use to be that no one wanted the (F)irst (M)odel (Y)ear problems and avoided buy them. SNOKING

Funny this came up. I saw one of these GM trucks a few days back and was still using the rear steer axle. Looked pretty cool crab crawling into a parking space. I think GM would have had something if it would have been offered in the heavy duty truck line.
