I ordered a 2004 3500 quad-cab short bed pickup 4x4 with the 305 ho in auto from a dealer in Long Beach ca. It is to be built when the lines start back up in mexico due to the holidays which is this up comeing week. I asked about the new engine and the dealer said he knew nothing about it and it was'nt on his computer for ordering yet. I need to know if any one knows when the new engine will be up for ordering and if I should just wait for it or go ahead and take the vehicle i ordered ?.

From my understanding they quit production of the old SO and HO cummins trucks on 11-21-03. This was to give the dealers a chance to sell what they had . Then start up production on 1-02 04 of the new 600 HO. So I think you will get the new 600.

I also doubt anybody could feel much of a difference between the old HO and 600 HO , in real seat of the pants driving. Joe might enlighten us on this since he has drivin both? I am just happy to be able to order a HO in calif.

How where you ever able to order an old HO in calif. anyway?

I think your dealer is nuts (if anyone can believe that!!!). Anyway, I too originally ordered a 305/555 engine when I all of a sudden get a call from my dealer saying that he didn't know what was going on, but something with the diesel and they quit building them until 5 Jan. We all obviously know the delay was to get equipped to start building 325/600 trucks. As far as your dealer not having that in his computer, tell him to look again. It was in my dealers computer weeks ago (5 Dec to be exact). You should find out when your truck is scheduled to start it's run down the assembly line, if it's 5 Jan or later... you'll be getting the 600.

To my knoweladge I ordered the 305 horse and 555 torque engine and that this engine is still going to be used in their line for sales. The dodge corp. is going to carry the HO 305 and 325 engines and both are going to be 50 state certified. If anyone has any knoweladge contrary let me know on this thread. Thanks

See the review of the Cummins 600 on the TDR home page for current info. HO 325/600 will be the only engine in all 50 states and NV5600 6 speed or 48RE auto are the only transmissions.

bellyscraper-Like the others said,I'm sure you're getting the new engine. As far as your dealer goes,he's clueless like most are. I shoped for a truck in late Nov,and early Dec. Not one salesman new of the new engines. After a lot of head scratching they would go to their boss to be enlighned. One sales manager said he didn't want to tell his employees or customers of the new engine till he sells what he has in stock. Production of the old ho ceased in late November.
