Scored a pretty decent 92 4x4 last week. Has POD's, virgin pump, and a rebuilt 518. Needs some TLC and massaging but my son is happy with it.

(My son is decent mechanic and mechanical engineer, he ain't a photographer) :-laf

On another note, in the quest for a good turbo my son decided the HE351VE's were cheap so he bought all the parts off Ebay and mounted it up. Total of $275 in all everything and some work.

With a stock pump maxxed out and POD's it runs 32-38 lbs depending on how the turbine size is set. Work in progress yet to integrate the EB function. Need a pyro next and check out the temps.

Drieveability is enhanced to say the least. Spool is good when compared to the stocker. If you have enough fuel hang on. My sons says when the turbo lights so do the tires if you are pushing it.

Currently he set it up to run about 12cm at the minimum and that spools almost instantly and tops out at 38 psi. Hook up the controller so it opens up to the max about 33 cm or so and boost maxes at 32 psi. Need to get some EGT readings across the rpm's to see where its at but from what I see on mine they should be good unloaded. Loaded is going to a bit different but I think it should be tolerable.

The setup is on a 93 2x4 dually that has a better TC installed. When he drove the 92 home he said the difference is blatant, like between a Porsche and a VW. :-laf

Hey now Never under estamate a VW mine will smoke most of the new v8's out and yes it's a 4 cyl pushing 186 to wheel's in a 1600 lb car :-laf:-laf:-laf

What did you do to the manifold? Was it cracked, or did it need a little adjustment for the turbo?

The flange on the VE is not standard one from way back when. You need to get the new flange for the turbo and weld it on to the old manifold. The newer manifolds position the turbo incorrectly to work in the gen1 body.
