After two years of reading, comparing and drooling, there is a new 2004. 5 QC SB Laramie 4x4 Auto setting in my nice warm garage! Thanks to everyone who willingly shares information on this site and helps us "newbies" chose the best truck. I had Line-X sprayed in yesterday and installed Nerf Bars and Husky mud flaps the day before. The only problem is we just got 8-10 inches of new snow, the first of the season, here in Anchorage, Alaska. After living here for over 30 years, I trust my driving and this new Dodge, but scared to death of all the other crazy drivers on the road. Still have my 1994 F-150 in the driveway, so will drive it for a few days. Sorry to be so "long winded," but just had to share the good news!

I know what you mean, mine stays in the driveway for the first snow day (in the mid-west)... By then usually the bad drivers have thier cars in the body shop or tow lot and only the better ones are left for a short period of time. :-laf

The junkers get driven as must as possible on those days...

Congrads on the truck, something else to consider is having the lower half of the rockers covered with plastic (like the 3M ultra shield) to keep the rock chips down, the mud flaps try but won't cut it all from hitting the body...

Have fun,

Dave

What plastic prtection is on your truck ? Did you put it on yourself or have it done. If you did it yourself, where did you get it and price, if you had it put on how much for install? Tks. Steve

I had the 3M clear film installed on my rockers and some other key areas a couple of weeks ago. You can barely see it. I haven't washed the truck yet, but I'm hopefull that if I use some common sense, it should last. A good idea considering the body design and easily chipped paint. No time like when the truck is brand spanking new!

I had mine installed by a great friend that was a Ultra-Shield rep for my area. The stuff is awsome, tar wipes right off, you can use any chemical you would use on a painted surface. Mine was more of a custom job since it was done by a good friend, but it goes from the door guard all the way down to the pinch seam and inside the door jams. Also had the head light protection kit installed.

My friend used his jeep rubicon for his display vehicle and had 90% of the jeep covered with the film and you couldn't even see it was on there, but he was the only one that would come out of the woods with out a scratch on it. :-laf

I wish I could turn you on to him but during thier vacation to Black Bear pass in CO this summer they ran into some bad weather and the Rubicon slipped off the side of the switch back and took a 927 foot fall, he and his wife didn't survive. :( It still leaves a big hole in my heart every time I wash the truck, but I kind of get a kick out of thinking he is looking down at me (as I just wipe off some nasty tar or something) I can still hear him saying "See I told you it would hold up" :)
