I now have a '98 12V auto.

I opened up the Injection Pump and found a #11 torque/cam plate. So, I went to the TST website and they don't recommend a #11 plate for a '98 auto. Probably because the injectors are smaller than the injectors on the '98 manual which the #11 kit is recommended for. So, I look on the other side of the engine and the injectors are unpainted. I guess that means they were changed out. But to what? The only identification I can find is the number 4013 stamped into each injector on the side facing the valve covers.

Anybody have any idea what injectors I have or any spec's on them?

Thanks,

- Dave

To really peg the injectors you'll have to pull them and get all the numbers off them. As for the #11 plate not that big of a deal really as long as it's not slipping the transmission, I have a #10 in my 94 and it's not recommended by TST.

The 230hp rating is the EPA "legal" limit for emissions. So, my guess is, if spending the money for a plate, they must figure might as well get the "230hp" plate.

The hp ratings are only a guide anyhow, assuming the plate is in the stock position. You can slide the plate forward for more power.

Alright I am new to the specifics about these engines and all the technical jargin. . what exactyl are these plates and where abouts are they and what do they do or can they do???

Do you need a special tool to remove the injectors? I'll have to do that. I'm really curious what exactly was done to this truck. Yes, the #11 plate is moved forward a little. The AFC is centered in the slots.

By not recommended, I mean the #11 plate doesn't work well with the factory '96-'98 injectors. I suspect they upgraded the injectors to at least the '96-'98 manual spec to get the 280/680 rating.

I made a simple little slide hammer to pull my injectors. Others have used a puller made from metal tubing that fits over the injector and a nut that fits the thread.

Hey Joe, as you see, I made it to TDR.

Sounds like they are pressed in. Without looking, if I have to use a slide hammer or threaded tool to get one out, how do you press them back in?

This one might be worth waiting on a service manual for.

They are not exactly pressed in. They just tend to stick in the hole because the clearance is pretty close. Make sure the hole is clean before reinstalling the injector.

Yeah, you need the service manual. Not so much for this job because it's pretty simple.

Glad to see you on here.

Some anti-seize spread around the body will make them come out easier next time. If I remember right ya torque the injector hold down nuts to 75 ft. lbs. but it has been awhile since I messed with mine. And be sure ya line the check ball back up with the groove when ya put them back in.
