Well, after waiting and thinking "I'm not going to own one of those new trucks!" I finally decided to test drive one a couple of months ago. That was both a blessing and a mistake.

Today I signed the papers on an 08' 3500 Mega cab resistol edition truck with 13002 miles on the ticker.

The truck will be shipped to me next week, so I am trying to learn everything I can about the truck, and what I need to do with this new engine. I've owned many diesel trucks, but all 5. 9's, so I'm a little nervous about the 6. 7. I don't plan on adding any aftermarket power until the warranty is out, but what else should I plan on doing immediately?

KEEP ON TRUCKIN'

Well number 1 Congrat's you will love the truck just follow a few simple rules

Always drive with exhaust brake on

and when you drive it Drive it like you Stoled it you will be happy and so will truck

Take it in to your local dealer and have them update the PCM to the latest flash which for 08 is "AS", I believe.

Thank you very much.

I have already spoken with the Service manager at my dealership to let him know what I was doing, and that I was going to bring it in for a once over.

As far as driving it like stolen, NO PROBLEM!!! That seems to be the only way I know how anyways, and I'm so excited to have an exhaust brake, I can't imagine why anyone would not use it always.

Thanks

Corey

Congratulations on the new toy !

I would recommend tossing the DPF & associated exhaust & slam a 5" TB on. Then grab a box, bigger air & a chip, you will be thrilled. If you leave it all stock you will be really disappointed. I was getting 10-12MPG before mods and now get 22-26 MPG (overhead).

My 2 cents worth.

Have you not had any problems with the ECM due to your mods? Seems that the majority of folks who decide to make modifications to their 6. 7s, end up having to take it to the dealer for service due to an array of codes that surface.

No Problems at all, I even took it into my dealer to show a tech there the mods and they slapped the starscan on to see if anything 'popped' into the logs. There was NOTHING listed at all. The Edge juice is doing its job perfectly!

ANd I know I may not be getting what the overhead says exactly but I listed the reading as reference to show I had seen a marked improvement over the before-mod reading of 8-12 MPG.

I get 950km from a full tank now (I am in Canada eh. ) soooo someone else do the math for me & let me know what the true reading is.

Check a few tanks on pen and paper and report back to us !!!:D

If the emission stuff fall off, make sure you make a U-turn and pick them up. You will need them when caught by the environmental police in the future.

950 km = 590 miles.

Assuming that you fill up with two gallons left, that would be 32 gallons...

= 18. 4 mpg.

This is a reasonable number...

I really like my 6. 7 compared to previous trucks. I do heavy pulling and have previously used Banks and Edge systems but find no need for after market performance on the 6. 7. I especially like the exhaust brake and the way it performs. Went from two previous six speeds to the automatic and like it. Enjoy the new truck.

I am definitely in my learning curve of the new truck and its components. I'm going to make an appointment with the dealer this week to have several things checked out, as well as the latest flash performed. The truck really seems low on power, and I am noticing that the Ebrake seems to work however it feels. It is not dependable at all. Fuel mileage is terrible, but other than that, I LOVE this truck. The fit and finish is great! I will let the dealer go through my list of complaints and see if we cant get the majority of them worked out with the new flash.

I am thinking about running a smarty, but i don't want to touch the emissions stuff for awhile.

You forgot to mention that you also swapped out your 409 cubic inch Cummins with a Volkswagen Golf TDI powertrain. :-laf:-laf:rolleyes:

There is no other way a 7,500 truck with a 6. 7L engine can get 26mpg unless it is rolling downhill, idling, with a 50mph tailwind.

From this:

to this...

... in a little over a month. I give you less than that after the Smarty arrives for the DPF and EGR to fall off. Vegas has the over under at 4. 5 weeks. What say the rest of you?
