looking at 2006 1 ton do they have the same pump lift pump computer problems as the 2001 or has that been resolved is that a good engine any help would be appreciated
my brothers has a 2006 model ,has been used on logging roads for 4 years now ,no serous issues yet much beter than my 2001, the engine is very powerful its still a 5. 9 but its factory modified,i`d go for it.
Completely different set-up; 2006 vs. 2001. Where the 2001 suffered from a bad lift pump (which is easily corrected) that will destroy the VP44 injection pump, the 2006 can suffers from potential cracked injector issues. Each truck has its ups and downs (mostly ups). I think the 2006 would be a great truck. Go for it.
The '06 uses an in-tank fuel pump to push fuel to the injection pump. I have not heard/read of any failures. My '06 had 230k miles on it when I sold it.
The '06 and '07s were IMO exceptionally good engines. They produced great hp and tq and the 48RE automatics were exhaust brake compatible.
My 06 dually was a good truck. I mainly purchased it to tow my newly upgraded 5er. It needed a heavier truck than what I had and rumors were then that DC was coming out with the 6. 7 with 68rfe. I only had the 06 for less than a year and purchased my 07. 5 . . The 06 was a very good truck except for slightly less fuel mileage than my 04. 5 . . I did install a factory eBrake on it.
