I have to turn the ignition switch to the "on" position to roll the windows down, this causes the grid heater to come on. Seems as though Dodge would wire the electric window motors to operate with the switch in the "acessory" position to save some drain on the battery. Does this make sense? Love the truck.

Seems to me with 2 batteries it is not that big of a concern. It only takes a few seconds to roll the windows down, that should not be long enough too have much effect on your batteries.

There was a posting about this recently, but I don't remember the title of it. Some members replied with how to re-wire your windows so you can put them up or down without turning the key on. You might try the "search" feature to find this topic.

Big Blue Toy, Your PCM activates heater grids at 59 degrees or under. If your grids are coming on above 59 check out Intake manifold air tempature sensor, heater relays, connections, grounds, wiring.
Amount of time they are on according to tempature readings
15 to 59 degrees 10 seconds
0 to 15 degrees 15 seconds
Below 0 degrees 30 seconds
I don't think you have anything to worry about.
This is from 96 manual but should apply to your truck also.
