Mileage: 11. 5 (Spokane-Missoula)

9. 9 (Missoula-Billings) (High winds)

10. 8 (Billings-Casper WY)

16. 3 (Casper WY-Torrington WY) Empty no trailer



transmission: AWESOME highly recommendthis set up. I felt going up the passes I was always in the right geear... no 3K rpms to keep the speed like the 04 Going down it shifted at the right times and kept speed very much under control. (with aid of engine brake) Shifted very smooth with load both up and down... a little rough empty but should loosen up.



Engine Brake... . Descending two different passes one 5% and one 6% grades respectively the engine brake kept me from EVER using the brakes... in fact the 7K behind the pickup was not enough to keep the truck up to speed on those grades with that brake... . I would have to hit the accelerator to get UP to 55 going down!



Exhaust temps: Loaded going up hill averaged 700 degrees. Never went over 825 (that was going 75 up a steep grade with the foot to the floor) Not once did I see it jump for an apparant regen. Empty ran 550-650 degrees.



I ran the truck with that load right out of the chute... . left Dishman with about 40 miles on it..... started feeling better power and shifting about 600 miles into the trip... . Driving empty felt like I was sitting on a high headed horse that was about to make a break... . loved it.



Mileage calcs were by hand until the empty stretch... . that was the readout as I don't have a guage on my tank at home. They were close to the readout by the Casper fill up as I didn't reset the readout for the whole trip... it said 11. 2

Another mileage note... . these numbers are better than I would have expected loaded from my 04 at this stage of the break in. The 04 typically is 12-13 loaded light 6-10 loaded heavy and 17-19 empty driving slow(these are all on the readout as I don't have a meter on my tank at home. I'm not concerned at all about mileage this truck has and anticipate it will be even better when this thing breaks in.



Great initial break in I suppose pulling 7K for 1K !!!



Many good dealers out there, but I do give an A+ to the Dishman team... . it was worth the drive!

yep, that was me. Had a close one when the front strap broke on the trailer when I was in the construction above coeur de lane (sp?) thought I was going to lose it all, but got lucky.

That was my impression , too. (the reason for my question about location of the sensor. )



The figures seemed about as much lower as one might expect from the reported amount of turbo-cooling.

I've driven it every day since we picked it up and I love it more each time. The frustrating thing has been having to drive behind really SLOW people on the highway--on Monday I drove it into town (17 miles in from home), and it seemed like every idiot out there decided to get in front of me and go 20 miles an hour below the posted speed limit. I wanted to let loose and see how the truck would do. Instead, it was like being a bronco forced to work some little kid's birthday party. Yesterday was better, but I still don't understand these people driving 52 mph in a 70 mph zone (and one of them in a Dodge 2500 diesel!) #@$%! This is Montana, after all. For a while we didn't even HAVE speed limits. I'm not asking to be able to drive like a maniac--I just want to go the speed limit (at least).



I added the seat covers and Cup Smoothie yesterday. I also got the truck and my cell phone to talk to each other (via UConnect) and that's pretty cool. But I'll be glad when tourist season is over and these conservative drivers go back to wherever it is that they live and I can DRIVE my truck the way it's meant to be driven.

EGT regrettably post... . I would have rather had it the other way to register any of the regens, but I'll move it around.



4:10 on the C&C



Over 90 air temps (actually was 106 in Billings when I drove up... . THAT was HOT).



I did drive hard. I was stuck in the hills going 45-65 due to traffic, but let er loose when I hit the flats outside of Billings and all the way home. I would drive 78-85 on the interstates and went 68 on two lanes(thus the huge increase in mileage)



FLatbed and airbags put on yesterday and I should pick it up this morning. Tomorrow it gets the backhoe (Cat 416 E)on its back and we'll see the real difference in the pulling of the aisen!

I can relate to that! We are directly in line with Sturgis and for the next few weeks it will be a Harley parade... . I love the sound and love seeing the bikes, but hate the traffic. Good luck!

What are the speed limits now on RT 15, RT90, RT200? Do they still have different night/day speed limits?



I drove out there when there were none (Wolf Creek area).



BVANR, I feel you pain. I've been through Sturgis twice, once during the Sturgis Rally (not on a bike, however) on my way to Montana.

BVANR, looks like yours is working like mine does. After I got the throttle control valve in mine replaced it is back to running like it did the first 50k. Your truck and mine must be practically twins. Sounds like they are pretty much equipped the same. It is a great truck for what I do and I'm sure it will work out the same for you. Just got back from a Louisiana run earlier today. My mileage is still averaging in the low 10's towing, depending on the weight and in the high 15's empty. It's well broken in now so I guess that is what it is going to make as far as mileage goes. Keep in touch and we'll compare notes.

I did the shorter wheelbase and not nearly the deck you got... . that's very nice. I'll keep up with how it runs. Glad your truck is running back to normal... I know you were at wits end there for a while and honestly it spooked me about my truck too. I'm anxious to put some real weight behind it and see how that transmission works!!

Van & EB, do both of you have the AISIN auto with 4. 10 gearing? When I attempt to build the C&C online choosing the auto transmission and 4. 10's, it defaults back to the 3. 73's... wassup with that?



Also, what's the GCWR (I see the GVRW is 12,500). . or how much loaded trailer weight can the 3500 C&C tow if the truck only has fuel and driver?

I have never tried to do anything with the online building of a truck, but unless something has changed, the only rear end gears you can get with the Aisin transmission is 4. 10.



I don't know off the top of my head what the GCVW is on the truck is, but at the risk of stirring up the gross wt. police, I regularly haul with a combined gross wt. of over 30k. Just got back from Louisiana following two of our big trucks at speeds I usually don't run, over 70 mph, while grossing over 32k, the maximum my company will allow me to haul. I had no trouble keeping up with them, and felt comfortable doing it. The fuel mileage is just not good at those speeds. The truck will pull whatever you feel comfortable pulling. The licensed combined gross wt on my truck and trailer is 37,900 lbs. , legal in 48 states. I'll never get to that wt. because my company will only allow 15k payload.

Thanks EB for clearing up the gearing thing for me. . I now see the error in my interpertation of the online build.



From what you say, the 3500 C&C will be more than enough for me to haul a goose trailer containing either a 10,000-lb tractor or other times two 6,000-lb suv's... I'm excited!
